Unless you live alone there is not usually a need to start cooking for one. The exception to this rule may be when somebody who lives with you has special dietary requirements. An example of this is when someone in the house is a vegetarian while the rest of the family is not. Often you will find the thought of cooking for one far more intimidating than the idea of cooking for a large group because recipe modifications can be difficult. However, cooking for yourself is relatively simple and quicker than cooking a meal for two or more people.

The best way to cook a meal for yourself is to prepare it in advance. This means that you should go out of your way to hunt down good recipes that are healthy, low in calories and fit within the structure of the diet that you are following. Once this is done you can make a shopping list and buy the ingredients that you need.
Finding recipes for one is not as difficult as it used to be in the past. The media is recognizing the need for recipes for single people and are releasing articles and books with simple meal ideas for one. Also the Internet is a great resource for cooking tips and recipes. There are plenty of single serving recipes out there, meaning that you’re sure to find something to meet your needs.
There may be a special recipe that you want to cook that is written for two or more servings. This does not mean that you have to find another recipe. There are two ways that you can approach this situation. The first is to cut down the ingredients and make enough food for one person. Sometimes this may have unpleasant results if the portions of the recipe ingredients are not adjusted properly. The other option is to simply make the full amount in the recipe and freeze the leftovers to enjoy another time. This also gives you the benefit of not having to cook every single night.
