Side Dish Recipes
We all know that it is important to eat at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruits every day. However, only 1 in 4 Americans actually does so. Side dishes are the perfect way to add extra vegetables to your diet. Prepare them simply by roasting or steaming with herbs or other seasonings. Or prepare more elaborate dishes such as gratins or souffles. Combined with grains and/or dairy products, you can make healthy and delicious dishes to accompany lowfat cuts of meat and round out your meal.
Tips to increase your vegetable consumption:
- Begin your meal with a glass of V-8 juice. This will not only give you a serving of vegetables, but it will also help fill you up so that you will eat less at your meal!
- Forget boring lettuce. Make a salad with fresh spinach leaves and include small amounts of vegetables to your side salad, such as onions, peppers, corn, etc.
