I am feeling proud of myself for not going on a shopping binge this week. Ok, I did buy one new pair of shoes - on sale - but the pair I was wearing this week fell apart and since I don’t buy super-expensive shoes when they break or tear or whatever there is usually no point trying to get them repaired. The quality of the materials can’t sustain the repair. That’s my story and I am sticking to it, plus the new pair were less than $50 and I am pretty sure the pair that ended up in the trash were even less than that. I did like them though…
I am heading to sleep in about an hour. I am so ready to crash….
Great. I seem to be coming down with something flu or cold-like. I am going to go get some medication and try to get some rest this evening.
I am finding being on this jury unbelievably draining. It is also a real lesson in patience. Not only are we spending a lot of time in a little room while the judge decides various things before the trial can proceed, we are also 12 people who have very different ways of relating to each other and interpreting things. We are all bringing our own experiences and values to this. I don’t think it is going to be easy to come to an agreement.
Although the exercise thing has not gone well this week, I am back on track with atkins, and the scale seems to have stabilised.
First day at jury duty - this is expected to go for a whole week. I am trying not to whine too much because if you believe in a civil society you have to participate in the mechanisms - I get that. I just am feeling so stressed right now that it is very difficult to be part of a trial, and it is a nasty one too.
Visit with the parents was fun, we spent the entire weekend at a curling tournament. Last night we went out for dinner with Sailorboy, and that worked out really well. Now I am heading up to his place for the evening. He won’t get home until later but I will crash in front of the fireplace for a couple of hours. If I stay here I will end up doing chores or something and I do need to unplug.
Atkins score: 7 out of 10.
Exercise score: 0
Wed at midnight, another long day tomorrow. I am so looking forward to the weekend.
I finally have come to accept that I will not go to the gym. I belong to one at the university and I hate having to chat with people while I am sweating and gasping for air; and none of the other ones in town appeal to me either. So, I bought a brand new rowing machine (never used - hah) off kijiji for $50 and that will be my winter morning exercise. I love the rowing machine for what it does to my back - stretches out every muscle.
(Weekends I will still head out on the snowshoes cause I would really rather be outside.)
Until the parents leave it is piled sideways in the hallway, but next week for sure.
……Have to re-read my atkins book, I am slipping off the rails again…the siren call of chocolate
Deadly exhausted but have to tidy up because my parents are coming to visit tomorrow for 5 or 6 days…they are retired so they can come and go as they please. Meanwhile I am fluttery with the need to plan: When are you arriving? And what do you want to do? When will we eat out? What groceries should I buy? etc….
I have stocked up with fruit and cereal and bread, since they get a bit tense when all they can find is soy milk and tofu bacon in my fridge. No snack foods though - they will be on their own when it comes to cookies and chips.
Time to take down the xmas decor…
