45 years old, and still, if my period is late I am convinced I am pregnant. Really. I have to laugh at myself. Every month, there is still that flash of relief that I dodged that magic sperm bullet once again. Like the damn things could ever get through the layers of defense modern dating demands…lol…even if I wasn’t way past my best-before date.
Generally wasted the day, even though I got up pretty early I had 0% energy. Now I have to move this mountain of laundry before I can go to bed. I did take the dog for another long hike today, my legs are very tired. I am going to have a low carb dinner and go to bed early.
This gps beacon thing is neat. I got it because it can send out a call for help from areas where there is no cell phone service, which gives me a sense of comfort when I think about being more adventurous than I am right now. Really I don’t go too far off the beaten path, but when the bush dries out I will map out some new routes. I haven’t figured out the tricks to the tracking feature yet - it as not quite as smooth as the website promises. Can’t help but admit I love these gadgets.
I am trying out this new thingy, which is a gps wilderness tracking doohickey. There is a link in my blogroll, if you are interested in seeing where I spend several hours every weekend. I just set it up, I will try it out today and see what happens. If it sucks I will take it down. If you are looking at the map the best view is ‘hybrid’.
It may be hard to believe but I know WINTER will end. So, while I was at Mountain Equipment Coop I bought:
- a water sports pfd for canoeing and maybe sailing and kayaking this summer
- a great waterproof bright yellow biking jacket (it is all about the visibility); and
- yes, a new pair of really high tech snow shoes.
And, just for the record, if you want to be the centre of attention in the middle of a major city, try walking down the main drag with a pair of baby blue snow shoes on your back.
It is raining tonight but this is a temporary thaw. It is way too early for the snow to disappear, By next weekend we will probably have another layer. So I will be able to use the new showshoes for a few more weeks.
Diet is not bad since I got home. Heartache always helps - when your stomach is in knots it is hard to overeat. Oh well, it will pass. I will get another dog, a few more cats, and will be the crazy animal lady on the corner.
Disconnected bullet pints from my life:
- Thing with TNB is kaput. It’s a mystery, which means it is probably for the best. I am more insulted than heartbroken. Don’t know if I want to get back into dating pool just yet though.
- Heading out on a three day business trip to the big city. Well, 1 day of business, 1 day of vacation…oh! must call girlfriend to arrange for night of debauchery. Also means I have to be on a plane for 6am(!!) Also means have to go into the office this evening to pack up stuff.
- Laundry is up-to-date
- Was on the way to the mall and couldn’t remember what I planned to buy, so I came home instead. Yay fiscal responsibility.
- OK, out to snowshoe again in the frigid but sunny world. I think I will take it easy today, go for distance and try to enjoy the moment.
I did get a good hike in yesterday afternoon, when it warmed up to -26C. Really, if you have all the right gear and you keep moving the cold is manageable, and a clean winter scene is so beautiful. I did Week 2 of podrunner 5k interval and let me tell you doing it on showshoes pushes you into the red zone. I was dragging the last 10 minutes to the truck.
Working that hard in the cold you want to be shedding clothes, which is bad because heating up from exercise doesn’t protect against frostbite on exposed skin. That’s where layering comes in.
According to the evil scale, I am down 4.1 lbs. I don’t really believe it, I have been hovering between 177 and 183 for six months and I think this is still what is happening. My calories have not been too low and I have not been following the strict atkins rules. I have been very strict about no sugar, flour, rice, pasta, potatoes or rice. Other than that, I have been keeping the carb count around 40g a day, veggies and/or fruit. So I do believe there is some effect, because I can see a difference in my face and in how some of my clothes fit, but I don’t believe I am shrinking that fast.
(And please don’t suggest it is ‘water weight’. My answer to that is: So what? If mt body needs to shed excess water that is a good thing.)
We’ll see what happens next week.
