Ran a 5k today
August 17th, 2008
I beat my best time and my goal for the day SIGNIFICANTLY and am so excited about that! I ran the 5k in 35 minutes and 52 seconds. My goal was to be under 39 minutes! I came in fourth for women my age (40-44). I am so stoked!
I started out too fast and knew I was not going to last at that pace, but I was caught up in the momentum of the group. I hit the one mile mark at 10:08. A freaking 10 minute mile… for me! Unheard of. I hit the two mile mark at 21:15… so a second mile also way above my average time. By then I was getting tired, and we hit some hills, so I lapsed into a much slower jogging pace. And then, before I knew it, the race was over!
So my average pace was under a 12 minute mile, and I couldn’t be happier with that.

I suck… Okay, I’m over it now
August 9th, 2008
I logged on prepared to beat myself up over my puny whimpy run today, but decided to do a little self-talk and a little self-love and get myself out of my self-induced funk and give myself a pass on the sucky run.
Road my bike to the gym, which is almost a mile (.7) each way. There’s a little hill before the gym, and when huffing up the hill made me tired and winded I thought, this does not bode well for my run. Hit the treadmill and decided to start out at my “fast” pace, which is 5 mph. Goal was run two miles at 5 mph. I ran one mile at 5 pm. Dropped my speed down to 4.7 mph and ran another 1.25 miles and then took a five minute walking break. Resumed running and ran another mile at 4.5 mph. Jogged a final quarter mile at 4.3 and then walked half a mile.
Kind of wimpy because my goal was run two miles at 5.0 mph and then run two miles at 4.7 mph before walking. But I just didn’t have it in me. Nothing felt good. My breathing felt labored. My legs felt tired. My feet hurt. All around NO LOVE FOR THE RUN today.
The bright spot was watching the Olympics, which I wrote about on my other blog.
I came home, showered, ate and I still don’t feel good. So maybe something is off with me today. And that is why I am giving myself a pass on the crummy run.
On the magical scale front: it read 146.4 this morning. Again. Hmmmmm.
Not sure what to make of this…
August 8th, 2008
Either my scale is retarded, or I am losing weight rapidly (for me, that is).
Here’s a recap
8/2 - 148.8 (prevacation)
8/6 - 150.0 (postvacation)
8/7 - 147.8 (1 day back on plan)
8/8/146.4 (2 days back on plan)
Now, I’d love for 146.4 to be accurate, but it doesn’t exactly seem right. Unless… unlesss… I may be on to something here… is it possible that my NOT eating shit foods, eating HEALTHY foods in moderate portions, and EXERCISING might be resulting in a loss of weight? Or is that just crazy talk?
I’m going to do an experiment, call me foolish, but I’m going to continue to NOT eat SHIT foods, eat HEALTHY and EXERCISE between now and my next official weigh in (Wednesday) and see what happens.
If this foolhardy “diet and exercise” thing actually works, I may have found the cure for obesity! Why has no one told me of this before?

Running myself ragged
August 6th, 2008
Well, at least my toes are getting ragged. I have ANOTHER little owie on one of my toes. It wasn’t bothering me too much, then about 40 minutes into my run, YOWZA, it was on fire. I started running weird to compensate, they my knee started to ache, and finally at 50 minutes I called it quits.
I met my goal, though, and ran just over two miles at 5 miles per hour! That was 25 minutes. I ran my first mile at 4.7 mph, then 2.1 miles at 5.0 mph for a 5k speed of 38 minutes 11 seconds. Took a five minute break at 4.5 mph, then went back up to 4.7 until my toe was too owie to continue on, which was about seven minutes.
So all in all, successful night on the tready. I wanted to take a photo of my injury, but it didn’t work out. The results are on my other blog. I heart mobile blogging with my cell phone, I truly, really, dearly heart it.
Just not right…

DD9 just got picked up for a night out at the County Fair. I called DH at work and said, honey, she won’t be home until 10:30 (she’s the only kid in the house tonight), what do you want to do?
I have visions of Happy Hour, of a movie, of couple-ness.
His response: Let’s go to the gym.
WTF? I may have created a monster.
So, the upside: no happy hour, no movie popcorn, so I have a good diet day, on plan. The downside: Romantic, not so much?
Gym Goal: If I have to go to the gym, I may as well make it worth my while. My goal tonight is to run at 5 mph for 20 minutes straight, no slow down breaks. I’ll let you know how it goes.
