weekend in review
November 23rd, 2009
Friday weight was an awesome 157.2. Sad that I think that is awesome, but I’m happy for the downward trend.
Friday food was OK. Nothing unusually good or bad. Exercise was a 2.5 mile run. Didn’t go to our usual Friday night dance session because DH wanted to go to the UP soccer game in the pouring cold rain. No thanks hon, you have fun.
FRIDAY RUN REPORT: First up: A couple of people have made mention of doing other types of exercise instead of just running, and I appreciate the feedback! I don’t want to appear to be some running-crazed nutjob, but the issue is I REGISTERED FOR A FRIGGIN’ HALF-MARATHON in January. So I not only need to be exercising for weight loss and health, I need to be TRAINING to RUN in a HALF MARATHON which I am COMPLETELY REGRETTING having signed up for. So while, yes, it would be a good idea to throw on a yoga DVD when I don’t want to get sweaty before driving DD10 to dance class, IT WON’T HELP ME LIVE when I run 13.1 miles in January. WHY DID I REGISTER FOR THIS STUPID RACE!??
Anyway…. RUN REPORT: Went uphill first so I could enjoy the downhill coast home. So I ran up for 20 minutes, doing run 4/walk 1 intervals x four I didn’t want to be too far away from home because it was RAINING and COLD and I felt that I might wimp out at any time, and when I wimp out, I want to be close to home. So instead of running straight UP the hill, I zigzagged my way up, which worked out great and I will definitely use this route again.
So 20 minutes of zig zagging up hill, and my zigs and zags were really adding to my mileage, because at the 20 minute mark, I turned around and ran home, downhill, in a straight line, and it only took 10 minutes. Which put me at 30 minutes of running done. I circled the block once for cool down and ended at 33:25, 2:52 miles done.
AND NOW: THE WEEKEND:
Weekend was the usual food-wise. Nothing noteworthy in either direction. No binges. Yay!
Sunday I was scheduled to do a 4-mile run to be “on task” with my half-marathon training plan. Weather was in the 40s and rainy. DH and I did a 3.6 mile brisk walk instead. He doesn’t want to run because it bothers his knees, and he needs to be getting out there and exercising, and I honestly would not have been motivated to go out in the rain by myself. So I think the 3.6 mile brisk walk is an excellent compromise. I’m shooting for a long run in the early part of this week, and then a five miler next weekend. Oy.

It sounds like you have been very active! Awesome job!
Good luck on your training for you half-marathon. I hope one day I have the courage to sign up for something like that!
Happy holidays~

The zig-zag idea sounds interesting. And it’s great that your hubby will walk w/you. Can you have him talk to my hubby?

You know, now you mention it, January doesn’t seem all that far away.
Seriously, though, you’ve run a 1/2 mary before & lived to tell the tale (and tell it in a fun & amusing sort of way as per usual for you), so know that while you might be feeling less than confident at the moment, the rest of us know you can do it. Been there, done that. Or, at least, I know someone who’s been there, done that & that’s enough for me, apparently.
Which brings me to my biggest question: is training all over again easier or harder than starting from scratch?

you are doing more training than me. I have to get my fat butt out there and do something in the “”running” area.
If you ever want to try running together before hand-facebook message me. That might motivate me a little. I tried running the other day and only could do 1/4 mile at a time. Not good.
I have found a on demand exercise part of comcast that I like. It is Cardioke. You sing while you work out. It helps you to breathe better. I love it. Too bad there is only one of these types of workouts out there.
We will get through this 1/2 marathon together. Whether we do it or just meet that morning and go for coffee while everyone else does it.
