I Completed My First 10k!

Posted by: Hilary In: Weight Loss Goal

This was a good weekend… I had a great weigh in and hit the 105lb loss mark and I ran in my frist 10k!  On Saturday morning I woke up at 6:30am, took a shower and headed downtown.  It was only about 35 degrees out but no rain! (It rained ALL week)  Laura and I got our numbers and then did a couple minutes of some warm up running before the race got started.   We started out together in the middle of the pact and stayed together for about the first 2 miles.  Laura took off and I stayed in my own zone.  I pushed myself and yet felt comfortabled the whole race.  I just love the atmosphere of a running event.  Everyone is so supportive the entire time!  We both finished the race confidently and happy with our times.  Laura finished in 63 minutes and I came in at 70:30.

Last year on this same weekend, Patti and I walked in the Step Out: To Fight Diabetes walk.   At the time, I was thinking about starting to run and that it might be fun to get into racing.  We saw the 5/10k-ers going over the bridge with us and no one looked like they were having any fun.  I thought, “Maybe I won’t get into that”.  Now I run 5 and 10k’s and LOVE IT!

Congratulations. You look absolutely fabulous. I, too, have lost a little over a hundred pounds. What an amazing feeling, huh? Since you’re a runner, I had a question for you. I really want to become a runner. I love the feeling it gives me. About a week ago I went to the gym twice and ran on the treadmill. Afterwards, two toenails turned black, filled with liquid and the nail fell off. I read that this could be a common thing but I’m not entirely sure how to fix it. I’ve researched it and it could be because my shoes are too tight. Have you ever had this problem? Thanks for your help. And again, you look wonderful. Keep up the amazing work =)
