Weekend Update

hilarific1283 on Feb 9th 2009 04:48 pm

I had a pretty good weekend. I went to workout with my Aunt on Saturday at the downtown YMCA. It was the first time I ever went to that location and I didn’t love it. It had double the machines my little Y had but the environment was way off. Then we went to On The Border with my Mom. I had Chicken Fajita Taco’s and veggies for 11pts and we split up 1 order of chips and salsa for 4pts. It was delicious and I didn’t even need to use any of my flex points. We also went to see He’s Just Not That Into You and it was hilarious!

Sunday I got up and had to lay on the couch with the heating pad for a couple hours. I can’t believe how bad TOM is this month. Hopefully it will be over soon. In the afternoon I started to feel better and went to the gym before going with my Mom to the airport to pick Heather up.

We are going to the gym later today. I think I’ll get in my c25k again and finally be caught up from missing last week. Then I will be on track to do 3 times a week with a day of rest in between. I have to decide what day to do my lower body workout. We are working with Paula again on Thursday and I want to be at full capacity for our ab workout. Maybe I’ll do back/shoulder/biceps on Tuesday, abs on Thursday and lower body on Saturday every week. Then I have Sunday to recover. (even though it’s 2 days after that hurts the most)

Back, Shoulders and Biceps…… Oh My!

hilarific1283 on Feb 7th 2009 08:19 am

MY LEGS ARE KILLING ME! It’s worse this morning (Sat) than it was yesterday, I can’t believe I have to do that lower body workout once a week. I guess I will notice when it gets too easy because I won’t hurt as much. Also, as much as I might complain that I’m in pain, I LOVE IT! What is the point of paying someone to provide a workout that doesn’t actually make you feel anything? I did that on my own…. I might have been sore for an hour or so after my workout but I never pushed myself anything like this. I say, Bring It On. Last night’s workout was Back, Shoulders and Biceps.

This is what we did:

5mins - Elliptical (warm-up)
2 sets of 12 - Lat Pulldown, 50lbs
2 sets of 12 - Seated Row, 50 and 55lbs
3 sets of 12 - Back Extension Bench *hardest 1 for me*
3 sets of 12 - Front/Side Raise combo on ball w/ 5lbs hand weights
3 sets of 12 - Cable Shoulder Press, 15lbs
3 sets of 12 - EZ bar Bicep Curls w/ 25lb bar
3 sets of 12 - Seated Bicep Curls on ball w/ 12lb hand weights

The back ext bench was crazy. When I joined the Y in September, I saw this woman using one of these. She saw about as small as a toothpick but built like a brick house ( she’s a brick, hooouse…. mighty mighty, just lettin’ it all hang out ) anywhoo… I thought, holy crap, that is impossible. For those of you who don’t know what these benches are I’ll try to explain it. You stand in it on an slight angle forward. There are pads that hit around your pelvis and down to your thigh and your feet go under another pad where the back of your ankles catch, so you don’t fall forward. Then you bend at the waist and hang upside down. You bend down as far as you can and then come back up to a little over flat back. The workout is kind of like doing a sit up but you are hanging upside down. It was very scary when Paula started to explain what we were doing. I thought to myself, “do you know that I weigh 260lbs? I am going to tip this thing over and fall on my face and look like an idiot” but I got into position and went for it. The first couple were scary as hell but after I realized it wasn’t going to tip, it got better. For a minute anyway, then I actually realized it was hard. Patti and I did all 3 sets and it was great to see we could do way more than either of us thought.  Here’s a picture of it!! (This is not me, obviously! Some day though!)

Today I am hanging out with my Aunt in the afternoon. It was her birthday this week, I don’t know what we are going to do but I’m hoping she wants to go to the Y with me! Then I’m going out to dinner and a movie with my Mom! (and maybe my Aunt too) If I go to the gym, I will do Day 1 of my c25k.

Have a good weekend Chickies!!!!!

I Survived!

hilarific1283 on Feb 6th 2009 08:31 am

Well…. I DID IT! I went to my training session. It went very well. I like Paula and how she works. (so far, I mean it was only an hour) She said we were going to start wth her hardest workout - lower body. She wants to see how sore we are today when we come back for day 2. Let me just say, holy…moly…. my legs are shaky today.
This is what we did:

2mins - Elliptical, res. 7
2 sets of 15 - Ball Squats on the wall
2 mins - Elliptial, res. 9
2 sets of 15 - inner thighs, 50 and 65lbs
2mins - Elliptical, res. 10
2 sets of 15 - outer thighs, 60 and 65lbs
2mins - Elliptical, res. 13 and ct. 15
2 sets of 15 - Stiff leg deadlift w/ 15lb body bar
2mins - Elliptical, res. 16
2 sets of 15 - Leg extensions, 25 lbs *hardest 1 for me*
2mins - Elliptical, res. 13 and ct. 15
2 sets of 15 - Calves, 90 and 95lbs

She showed us a specific stretch to do after each set of weight work and gave us a cheat sheet for when we do lower body on our own. Today we train at 2pm and we are working upper body. I told her that free weights intimidate me but I’m excited to learn how to use them properly.

This morning was also weigh in and I lost 5.5lbs!! Yayyy for the flu….j/k! It’s actually TOM and I was worried I wouldn’t lose. I have had the worst cramps of my life.

Day 150!

hilarific1283 on Feb 4th 2009 01:22 pm

Today is Day 150 and I couldn’t be more proud of myself. I think that I am more proud of the amount of days I have been working on my new life than the actually number of pounds I have lost in that time. Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely excited about the 61.5lbs I have lost in 5 months but I have little control over exactly how many pounds I lose. I DO control whether or not I continue changing my life by eating right and working out - I control that 100%!

Tomorrow is Training Day 1 and I’m a little nervous. Not about the actually working out and what not, that I’m excited for. I’m just hoping that I am at my full potential after having the flu. I still have little tummy issues now and then but am back at work and almost back to eating a full days points. I’m drinking the last of the Gatorade I have to rehydrate myself and of course, plenty of water.

sick, and it sucks..

hilarific1283 on Feb 3rd 2009 04:52 pm

I was supposed to start the couch to 5k today but I got the flu on Sunday night. No exercising for me today. I did, however, lose 10lbs from Friday to this morning!! I’m sure I’ll gain some back when I actually start to eat again and stop barfing. (sry…lol) Sunday night was the worst. I was up every hour and even passed out once on the way from my bed to the bathroom. I hit my sister’s bedroom door and scared the crap out of her! I’m feeling much better today and am working my energy up for our training session on Thursday. We’ll see!
