Back, Shoulders and Biceps…… Oh My!

Posted by: Hilary In: Weight Loss Goal

MY LEGS ARE KILLING ME! It’s worse this morning (Sat) than it was yesterday, I can’t believe I have to do that lower body workout once a week. I guess I will notice when it gets too easy because I won’t hurt as much. Also, as much as I might complain that I’m in pain, I LOVE IT! What is the point of paying someone to provide a workout that doesn’t actually make you feel anything? I did that on my own…. I might have been sore for an hour or so after my workout but I never pushed myself anything like this. I say, Bring It On. Last night’s workout was Back, Shoulders and Biceps.

This is what we did:

5mins - Elliptical (warm-up)
2 sets of 12 - Lat Pulldown, 50lbs
2 sets of 12 - Seated Row, 50 and 55lbs
3 sets of 12 - Back Extension Bench *hardest 1 for me*
3 sets of 12 - Front/Side Raise combo on ball w/ 5lbs hand weights
3 sets of 12 - Cable Shoulder Press, 15lbs
3 sets of 12 - EZ bar Bicep Curls w/ 25lb bar
3 sets of 12 - Seated Bicep Curls on ball w/ 12lb hand weights

The back ext bench was crazy. When I joined the Y in September, I saw this woman using one of these. She saw about as small as a toothpick but built like a brick house ( she’s a brick, hooouse…. mighty mighty, just lettin’ it all hang out ) anywhoo… I thought, holy crap, that is impossible. For those of you who don’t know what these benches are I’ll try to explain it. You stand in it on an slight angle forward. There are pads that hit around your pelvis and down to your thigh and your feet go under another pad where the back of your ankles catch, so you don’t fall forward. Then you bend at the waist and hang upside down. You bend down as far as you can and then come back up to a little over flat back. The workout is kind of like doing a sit up but you are hanging upside down. It was very scary when Paula started to explain what we were doing. I thought to myself, “do you know that I weigh 260lbs? I am going to tip this thing over and fall on my face and look like an idiot” but I got into position and went for it. The first couple were scary as hell but after I realized it wasn’t going to tip, it got better. For a minute anyway, then I actually realized it was hard. Patti and I did all 3 sets and it was great to see we could do way more than either of us thought.  Here’s a picture of it!! (This is not me, obviously! Some day though!)

Today I am hanging out with my Aunt in the afternoon. It was her birthday this week, I don’t know what we are going to do but I’m hoping she wants to go to the Y with me! Then I’m going out to dinner and a movie with my Mom! (and maybe my Aunt too) If I go to the gym, I will do Day 1 of my c25k.

Have a good weekend Chickies!!!!!
