So last Friday was my 46th birthday.  I can’t believe I’m this old.  When my parents were this age all their kids (all 3 of us) were out of high school and I (as the oldest) had already graduated from college.  EEK typing that out makes me feel even older.  Of course my girlfriend’s comment about her birthday (she’s 3 whole weeks older) that she wasn’t happy because now she’s closer to 50 than 40 didn’t help any.  It’s pretty funny though my niece whose birthday was the preceding Sunday (she turned 4) wanted to give me birthday spankings, my sister said 46 spankings I wouldn’t be able to walk, I think the kid’s hand would be numb….For my birthday the Tigers swept the Yankees (big cheering, lots of applause) and are headed to the World Series.  And because they did it on Thursday we could continue our plan of going to the Detroit Seafood Market for dinner, I’d bought a Groupon at the beginning of Sept with the plan of going for my birthday, then we got worried because the restaurant is only a few blocks from the ball park (I just wasn’t thinking baseball around my birthday), but all worked out.  And our dinner was great, leftovers for dinner tonight.

OK enough babbling about my birthday.  Time for some updates on some other stuff:

Life haven’t done much here.  Really need to work on getting moving in the mornings, rather than coming down in my PJs and sitting around surfing the net or knitting until afternoon…..

Yarn – Got some stuff done here, I finished my mitts for the LoKal they’re a little snug on the forearm but I think I can still wear them…

I’m also about 2/3’s of the way thru the second sock for the German Stockings (knee highs) hoping to finish them this week, I’m on the edging for the Piper’s Journey, and started the second sock for the carousel socks need to have them done to wear to vote (they’re for the Sock the Vote KAL), I think that’s all I worked on the last 2 weeks.  Oh yea I did have a dye day last week, I’m pretty happy with 3 of the 4 skeins need to overdye the 4th.

Food – Well the first week of the 2 weeks since I posted went well, last week not so much.  I did loose weight both weeks tho.  The problem with the second week is that I skipped breakfast, then couldn’t decide on lunch and put it off and then I was really hungry and making bad choices…..A couple of good notes tho:  On the 14th we went to my sister’s for my niece’s birthday and since she wasn’t having food we left a turkey chili in the crockpot for dinner, yum.  Then yesterday we went to Red Robin for lunch (I got a free burger for my birthday) and I looked up what I was having before we went.  First I’d like to commend them for an awesome nutritional site, but 26 pts for a burger!!!!! I only get 33 for the day, yikes, but I subbed a grilled chicken breast and it was a little better, as long as it’s a treat rather than a normal event it’ll be fine.  Speaking of my points I’d like to complain 2 weeks ago I got 35 pts/day then I lost enough weight to drop down a point (ok I can handle that) then yesterday when I put in my weight I lost another point.  I didn’t lose that much more, the only thing I can think of is that I went to the next age bracket….another reason to not be happy about my birthday.

Exercise – Not good at all.  That’s about all I have to say.  I really need to get moving.

This post has gotten pretty long, so here are my quick goals:

Life – I will come down dressed every day no excuses, even if the dogs have to wait for breakfast while I shower…

Yarn- Like I said above, I want to finish the knee highs, and continue to work on Carousel and Piper’s Journey, no casting on anything new until they are done.  Today I think I’m going to dye some more yarn.

Food – Go thru the crock-pot book for something for Sunday and next Wed (Halloween) when I have to pick my parents up at the airport at dinner time.  Continue tracking, limiting alcohol, and eat breakfast.

Exercise – The weather is supposed to be beautiful this week so walk the dogs most days and go back to water aerobics tonight and Thursday (I have something Sat am so can’t go then).

Well I should get going and eat my breakfast.  Check out that I updated my incentives page, need to come up with some good incentives for the harder stuff…..

Monday oh Monday…

October 8th, 2012

Sorry for the kind of down post yesterday, it was just one of those kind of days.  Today has been better tho.  It’s amazing how a sunny day will raise the spirits.

Here’s where I stand on my goals:

Life – I slept in this morning, and didn’t get moving very quickly, I did finally go up and sort the laundry and get things going, but didn’t get much else done today.

Yarn – I worked mostly on the German Stocking knee highs yesterday and I got a good way into sock 2, I also worked on my STV Carousel sock, and that’s pretty much all I worked on today too, overall I’m pretty happy with where I’m at, and I have to say these Carousel socks are going to be some crazy socks when they’re done.

Food – As predicted I used up about 2/3 of my flex points for the week yesterday, but today I’ve been doing pretty well, even though we had left over Italian for dinner.  Now to stay away from the case of wine that came today.

Exercise – Didn’t go to water exercise today and tomorrow I’m teaching a knitting class so won’t go tomorrow, but I did go for a walk and we walked faster than usual so that’s good.

Tomorrow’s goals are to finish the laundry and get ready for class.

Have a good day all.

Try, Try, Again

October 7th, 2012

Ok last week pretty much turned into a fail.  The weather did that down-up-way down thing and so my sinuses were not at their best, and every muscle in my body seemed to ache, as a result I didn’t get much done.  Luckily I also didn’t over eat (although I didn’t eat a very balanced good for me diet), so I still lost weight (or at least I think I did, not sure about my new scale).  I did however finish my Sake Socks, so I’m pretty happy there.

I really don’t have much to say, so I’m just going to list the weekly goals:

Life – Continue with the plan of getting up and dressing and starting to work on the house by 10:00 after breakfast.  This week I want to finish cleaning the main floor and do the laundry.

Yarn – Continue working on the Sock the Vote Socks, the German Stocking Knee Highs, the Alpaca Mitts, and Aunt Mary Ann’s comfort shawl.

Food – Repeat last weeks goals of no alcohol unless out, and tracking all food.  Today is going to use up a lot of my flex points for the week tho since I chose to eat bad for me stuff at lunch and we’re going out to dinner with my parents for our birthday.  I’ll just have to reign in the dinner choices.

Exercise – Again repeat last weeks goals of going back to water exercise and walking the dogs most days, really this is something I can do and I know I’ll feel better, I just need to do it.

Well this has been a pretty down post but, that’s the kind of week I had.  Here’s hoping that I can improve this week.

Well it’s bright and early (ok not so early) Monday morning and I’m already modifying my goals for the week.  Not sure if this is a good thing, but it’s defiantly realistic.

Yesterday, I didn’t do too well on the food plan for the week.  It turned out to be a nice sunny (if cool) fall day, so we decided to take a ride out to the cider mill.  What else do you you do on a sunny, cool, autumn Sunday in Michigan if not go to the cider mill.  So DH found one on line, and we took his fast car which will go into storage by the end of the month, and drove about an hour out of town.  I want to ferment some hard cider, which I’ve taken to drinking more, so we left the mill with 5.5 gallons of cider, 2 lbs of honey and a couple of donuts (which just smelled soooo good at the mill).  Then we sat in the city park and had a cup of cider and a donut, when I went to WW on-line and posted what I’d eaten, I should’ve skipped the donut good as it smelled (and tasted) it wasn’t worth the 7 pts.  We then went to Ann Arbor to visit a brew pub I’d heard about and had an early dinner, since we’d both skipped lunch.  I had a really good steak salad, although it had a little too much dressing, should have asked for it on the side, and a hard cider.  So here comes variation to the plan #1:  Alcohol only if we go out and only 1 glass.  I was good when we got home I put my food into the tracker, saw I had none left for the day which kept me from snacking, and drank water for the evening.  It was weird tho, usually when we go out to dinner we leave around 6:30 – 7:00 and get home around 8:30 – 9:00, yesterday we got to the restaurant about 5ish and were home by 7, all evening I kept thinking it was later than it was.

Now for variation to the plan #2:  I originally said that I was going to get up and start with the house cleaning for at least an hour/day.  Yea that’s not going to happen.  I’ve been getting up with DH or right after he leaves, he leaves at 7:30am I am NOT a morning person, I can barely function that early in the morning, I need my wake up time, even when I worked and had to be out of the house by then, I was not fully coherent until 9, I just tried not to make major mistakes before then.  Anyway, I’ve decided that I will get up and have my pop or tea with my Metamucil wafer and knit and wake up, then have breakfast and get to work by 10 (although because I’m posting I’m already late today, so need to wrap this up).

Knitting update:  my new plan for the week is to finish the Sake socks and the Midnight Sky mitts (I’m not sure I mentioned these they’re for the Fat Squirrel Speaks Podcast’s LoKal, a knit-a-long with local to you yarn), and then I can cast on for the Sock The Vote Green Party Socks.  I have to many WIPs right now and need to get some off the needles.

Today’s Plan:  Finish this post.  Work in the kitchen, I want to get the counters cleaned and scrubbed (oxy-cleaned), then clean out the fridge, run the self cleaner on the oven and maybe take down the fan blades to clean but that may wait for tomorrow.  Finish the sheets and towels (started them this am).  Make the grocery shopping list.  Walk the dogs and mow the grass.

I think that’s a full plan so I better get moving, have a great day everyone.

It’s Been A While

September 30th, 2012

Well I’ve been slacking for the end of summer.  I haven’t been going to WW or tracking or exercising, I thought I was doing OK the scale at home showed I was loosing weight and I was feeling pretty good, but….the scale was die-ing and you had to step on it a dozen times and pick the weight that came up the most, so yesterday we went and got a new scale, yep I’m pretty much where I was at the end of July (or March for that matter), so I need to figure out what to do.  Actually I know what to do I just need to do it.  So we’re going to start once again, only this time I need to get back that determination I had at the beginning.

So 2 weeks ago we were on vacation in DC and had  a great time.  Here is a couple of my favorite photos from the day at the mall, cool temps and sun just what we wanted:

And for my knitting I’ve been working a lot and don’t remember what I was working on when I last posted so I’ll just share a pic of my latest shawl that I worked on in the car on the trip down to DC (10 hrs total one way) my Carson Shawl:

Since it is Sunday here are my goals for the week:

Life – I really need to work on the house, it is pretty scary, so my goal for the week is to get up get dressed and work on cleaning, no knitting, tv watching or web surfing until I’ve done at least an hour of house work.

Yarn – I have several things on the needles (I know big surprise) I’m planning on working on my knee high German Stockings, the comfort shawl I’m doing for my Aunt who is having some serious medical issues, and my stricken socks, plus I want to get some dyeing done, but that requires a clean kitchen see life…..

Food/Diet – The biggest thing is actually a thing not to do, I’m not going to drink wine/alcohol, I really need to cut down and I’ve found the best way to do that is to not drink at all for a couple of weeks.  I’m also going to get back to measuring my meals, and track so that I can know what I’m actually eating.

Exercise – I’m going back to water exercise on Monday, and want to walk the dogs most days of the week, maybe I’ll try to do that first before the cleaning…..We’ll see.

This is getting longer than my usual, and is a little photo heavy, but I’ll leave with one more photo from vacation taken after lunch @ Mt. Vernon:

And Yet Again

July 30th, 2012

I’m stuck and I just don’t know what to do about it.  I just can’t seem to get away from 230, I’ve been here for close to 5 years now, I’ll go up almost to 240 then I’ll feel bad and turn over a new leaf and go down, I’ll get down to the mid 220s and then I’ll start creeping back up until I’m back to 230….I don’t want to quit WW I know it works and I can loose weight if I stick to and follow plan, I just can’t seem to make myself do that.  So yet once again I’m starting over, I really, really, really want to break thru this place I’m stuck at.

Anyway so other than that a quick update on things that have happened the last couple of weeks since I last posted.

We went camping with my family, I wasn’t expecting much, things can get fairly dramatic with my family, but it went really well, there was minimal drama, and much relaxing.  Here’s a photo of me laying in the hammock knitting what you can’t see is that one end of the hammock is tied to my car which is always happy to fill in for a tree:

I’ve been working on a bunch of knitting, but most of it has been put on hold while I work on my Ravellenic Games projects.  One of those RG projects is kilt-hose for DH’s b-day, I’m sure these will be fine once I get past the “heavily cabled fold over cuff” but right now they are kicking my butt.  The other RG project is a set of felted coasters for our niece’s housewarming party in a couple of weeks, I’ve got one done, I’m trying to decide if I should felt it to check size before knitting the others or knit them all and hope for the best.  On Saturday (after WW and Water Exercise) my girlfriend and I went out to the local winery for their Wine and Wool Fest, I spent too much, but had a good time.

On a side note I may have figured out why my allergies have been acting up this summer.  Before we went camping I noticed water on the floor under the furnace, I figured it was something minor and we’d deal with it when we got home.  Well turns out the drain in the A/C’s condenser was plugged so the water wasn’t going to the drain but rather pumping out on the floor.  I forgot about it when we got home and last Friday (a week after first noticing the problem) I noticed it again, in the meantime the water had traveled under the wall to the finished part of the basement and soaked the carpet.  We now have fans and the de-humidifier running trying to dry out the basement, when it’s dry I’ll rent a steam cleaner and do the carpet down there, to hopefully get rid of all the mildew and probably mold in the carpet.  I’m just hoping we can salvage this and won’t need to tear out the carpet.

This post is getting kind of long but I still want to post my goals for the week:

Life:  The same as the last couple of times I posted – clean off my dresser and sort my clothes, wash my face every night. Add to that clean up the basement.

Yarn: Plug away on those kilt-hose.  Stay away from online stores I don’t need any more yarn….

Food: Stick to plan, drink more water and less Diet Coke, drink less wine…I think that’s enough.

Exercise: Move daily…..simple and sweet.

Well time to get moving I need to pay the bills and run some errands, and man I feel like a nap, but can’t right now.

Have a good one,

Tech

Well I disappeared for another week.  I’m not sure what’s up with me I just can’t seem to get myself back into the groove.  Of course this last week had a combination of issues PMS and nasty heat, but those are just excuses and not the root of the problems…..I need to get to that root.

Anyway, last week I lost a half pound at WW but I had left my shoes on (I usually don’t) and they weigh another pound, so I figure I was down about 1.5 lbs.  Yesterday I skipped WW because I wasn’t feeling good (darn TOM), I weighed at home but our scale is wigging out so it’s not trustworthy, but it said that I was down another pound.  All that being said officially I weigh 230.4 which is slightly higher than I was at the beginning of May 🙁

Knitting wise I had a pretty good couple of weeks, I finished the sweater I was working on, the socks for my KSL knit along, and my Kleio.  I’m pretty happy with my progress.  I joined a summer stash dash with one of the groups in Ravelry (the KnitGirllls podcast group), they had you set a goal for the summer (dates were one of the hosts summer holiday from school) and with half the time finished I’m 43% to goal, so not to bad, need to pick up the pace a bit though.

THIS WEEKS GOALS:

Life – Sadly these are the same as 2 weeks ago, get up and get dressed, wash face, clear out clothes, I think I want to add the morning pages, they always seem to help (they’re from Artist’s Way by Julie Cameron)

Yarn – Work on Wedge, should finish the first sock and maybe the second as well, cast on for my next sweater (Gemini), work on all the other projects I’ve got going.

Food – Track everything, work on eating mostly power foods, may switch to simply filling.  Try at least one new recipe.

Exercise – Again I’m going to duplicate the last set of goals, walk the dogs in the morning first thing, go to water exercise at least twice, get in a bike ride.

Here’s my updated photo it’s also the Finished shot of the Urban Sweater I knit.  It is not a very flattering photo (maybe it’ll kickstart my butt):

Welcome to Zombieland

June 20th, 2012

Sorry I missed my post yesterday, I did not have a good day Monday although I did stick to my plan pretty well and then I woke up grumpy yesterday, but I persevered and now it’s hump-day.  This is going to be another short one I’m taking the dogs out to the folks to go swimming (may parent’s live on a lake) and I want to leave soon.

Anyway just an update:

Monday after posting I got ready and went to donate blood, well they were behind so I waited a while (I had a 10:00 apt and got on the table about 10:45) but I’d brought knitting so it wasn’t so bad.\ I don’t know what happened, but it was physically painful to donate blood and then I stopped flowing so the nurse had to wiggle the needle and I had to grit my teeth to keep from screaming.  I’m not sure why this happened, I’ve donated a couple of dozen times and never has it hurt like this, DH thinks they probably hit a nerve and since he had many blood draws/IVs during his cancer treatments he’s probably right.  My arm kept hurting all night, it was still sore when I got up yesterday, it was fine as long as I didn’t use it but if I used it at all it ached.  Well, I had to stop at the farm market on the way home to finish the grocery shopping, and then work on my sweater or it wouldn’t be done to wear Saturday and I also had dinner to make, so I kept using it and it kept hurting and I kept getting grumpier and grumpier…..On a good note I made the Fajittas I’d planned and we ate at home and I didn’t have any wine, and I tracked everything and ended up w/in points, so alls well that ends well, right.

Now on to Tuesday:  Since both my arms were sore I didn’t get up early to walk the dogs, I didn’t think I could handle it, and I discovered it didn’t hurt to bad if I stuck to only an hour of knitting at a time, so I would knit and then take a break and knit some more, and when I tried on the sweater before bed I only have a couple of inches to go today so it’s looking promising.  Unfortunately I didn’t make it to water exercise as I had planned, I was still crabby and sore so I put it off….I really wanted to go out to our favorite bar for half off pizza last night but we refrained and instead stuck to plan and made one of our favorite dishes Basil Shrimp with Feta and Orzo its one we do often in the summer, it’s fast, easy, tastes good and not horribly fattening.  You take orzo and mix it with tomatoes, green onions, feta, lemon and s&p and make a bed of it on foil, you then mix basil with shrimp and lay that on the orzo mixture, close the foil and bake, often we do it on the grill, we’ve even made it up in the morning when we’re going camping and put it on the grill when we get there, it’s really good.

Now to the definition of the title.  I watch a podcast called Stockinette Zombies and when asked where the name came from they said that one of them was working on a sweater and had hit the body section and felt like a zombie a stockinette zombie.  Not being a garment knitter I couldn’t relate but I understood.  Well, this week I’ve been trying to get this sweater done and I now can relate, I’ve been knitting stockinette in the round for 4 days and am about ready to stick a sharp pointy stick in my eye.  Thankfully I’ve finished that part and now have 2″ of seed stitch to the end, I’m not thinking that’s going to be that much better, but at least the end is in sight.

Well, I’ve gotta get a move on, if I’m going to make it to my parents house.  Hopefully I’ll have photo’s tomorrow.

Have a great one all,

-Tech

Just a Quickie

June 18th, 2012

Just got home from taking the dogs for a walk.  I’m pretty impressed that I got up before DH left, got dressed and took the dogs before breakfast for all of us.  It wasn’t hot when we started although it got warm by the end, but it was muggy so I was dripping by the time we got home.  I’ve now cooled down and need to go shower and eat breakfast because I have to leave for a blood donation appointment in less than 30 min.  But I wanted to post this really quick.

Yesterday went pretty well on all fronts except exercise.  We were planning on going out to my folks to use the lake but rain rolled in about the time to leave and we decided we didn’t want to drive an hour to sit in their un-airconditioned house in the rain, particularly since they weren’t even home, so we didn’t do that, and it was too muggy to walk by the time we got home from church and breakfast, therefore no exercise.  Food was ok, I tracked and was w/in my points even going out to breakfast (I had a strawberry belgian waffle, I eat about one a year), skipping the wine at dinner really helps with that.  I also got some work done on my sweater, so I think it’s still feasible that it will be done by Thursday for blocking, to wear on Saturday.

Now as far as this walking thing…do they sell blinders for dogs?  It was still nice out so the squirrels and rabbits abounded, and now my arm is sore…going to have to do the exercises I learned in PT when I injured my shoulder a couple of years ago.

Anyway, I really have to go.  Sorry this was so discombobulated, but such is life.

Have a great one,

-Tech

PS I decided to drop the day count for 2 reasons: 1 I didn’t want to figure out where I was, 2 it’s not really accurate since I went astray for a month or more……

This last week I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about which came first being a depressed, lazy slug and gaining weight or gaining weight and then getting down and turning into a lazy slug….

I guess it really doesn’t matter, I just know I really need to break the cycle, I think the first step is not to drink (alcohol) this week at all (well maybe until Sat we have a family picnic and it may be required, if you know what I mean).  I also want to get dressed and take the dogs out first thing in the morning, it’s supposed to be hot and humid so that’ll be the best time, I think those two things should help get me moving.

Now for the week(s) in review:  Diet wise not so good, I did lose a couple of pounds so I’m back to where I was mid-April, I’m really hoping that I can get back on track and start loosing again.  Exercise wise, also not so good I did get in walks 3 times each week and last week I went to water exercise on Saturday, but I didn’t go on the week nights and I didn’t go yesterday, I can give you all kinds of excuses but, really it’s just that I didn’t.  Knitting went a little better, I got the new yarn and finished Kleio although I still need to block it, I finished the first sock of Merilinda (the latest Cookie A, I am glad there are only 3 more), and I’m half way thru the sweater Urban (hoping to finish it to wear next Saturday).  I also got in a bunch of undyed yarn to dye, I want to give it a shot, hopefully this week, first on the agenda try to break some black (that’s not going to make sense to anyone who hasn’t dyed).  Life wise go back and read the first sentence, not so good.

Philly’s pacing he wants breakfast so I need to wrap this up.

Goals for the week:

Life – Work on getting dressed first thing in the morning, and washing my face before bed.  Also clean up my dresser and get rid of stuff I’m not going to wear.  Come back to post daily.

Yarn – Finish up the socks and sweater, block the shawl.  Sweater has priority since I want to wear it Saturday.  Dye up a couple of skeins of the undyed yarn I bought.

Food – Track everything, no alcohol.  Stick to the menu I’ve made, try not to go out or order take out more than once.  Try something new for lunch….

Exercise – (not in the title but important) Walk at least 4 times this week, go to water exercise at least twice, get my bike out for a ride.

I also need to get that updated photo up, if it doesn’t happen today, I should have a finished object photo with the sweater next week.

Well I’m going to get moving feed the dogs and get DH up for church.  Have a great week and hopefully I’ll be back tomorrow.
