Happy New Year!
So far all is well in the new year, with one big exception - a kidney infection. I ended up in the ER a few days go, and have been on vicodin for gut/back pain for several days. I feel ok, but I have been comforting myself with food in a big way.
Between the holiday splurges and the comfort eating I have enjoyed myself with regard to food, despite eating way over my target calorie limit. And my weight has been all over the place. Just yesterday I weighed 154.8, but luckily today I weigh 152.8. In particular I enjoyed the gluten free focaccia, the chocolate / caramel apple, the wine!, the baked potato with butter and bacon, and the prime rib (twice in one week!)!!!
People sometimes beat themselves up over eating “bad” over the holidays, but I think its important to enjoy yourself and enjoy the food you eat.
I also think its important to practice getting back on the bandwagon. There will always be holidays and parties, and we need to be able to occasionally overeat and have the confidence that we will get back on plan easily.
One of my new year’s resolutions this year will be to take what I’ve been doing to the next level. For example, I get regular exercise already, so the goal for 2011 will be to exercise for more time with more intensity. With regard to my diet, I want to cut down on the sugar I eat, and cut down on snacking between meals. I also have some other goals, like getting more sleep and traveling more.
