I’ve had a hard time getting back in the swing of things.  Time to get serious!!!

On another note, the weather in California has been crazy.  It RAINED yesterday, and its going to be in the 50s and 60s all week!  Thats more normal in San Francisco but in the east bay we’re usually well into the 70s and 80s on most days by this time of year.  And rain is unusual after April.  This has been a LONG winter for us.

Today is nice (but a little windy) so the hubs and I are going to go to the Vacaville outlets and then to hit some golf balls at the range.  Then we’re going to come back here and bbq up some nitrate-free, organic hot dogs!  Should be a really fun day!

I’m so happy with the numbers I’ve been posting since I got back from vacation.  I really got into a weird funk in April, and it was the first month since I started losing weight in July that I posted a gain for the month.  I went back and looked at my “average daily calories” for the month and it was 2117, which was a major dose of reality.

I realized that I had resumed an old habit of coming home from work and pigging out.  Its the time of day that I start telling myself lies like, “you’ve had a rough day at work; you deserve a second helping / dessert / a second glass of wine…..”  The last couple of weeks I’ve been more mindful of stopping when I know I’ve had enough, and I think that is the key.

Last but not least, I want to say that I’m so glad we’re halfway through May ~~ it means summer is almost here!

This week’s weight (2/28/2010):  171.8

This week’s weight loss / gain:     Lost 3.2 lbs

Total weight loss:                          Lost 41 pounds

All I can say is… YES!!!

I finally reached (and surpassed) my goal of losing 40 lbs.  FINALLY!

This week I was gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy-free.  It was good and bad.  It certainly did not resolve all of my digestive issues, but I had enough success with it that I’ve decided I’m going to continue.  And, who knows, maybe those changes helped push me over the 40-pound mark.

“Lose forty pounds” was an elusive goal that I have been fantasizing about for years.  I promised myself that I would do something amazing if I reached this goal.  Here are some ideas below.  Let me know if you have any other ideas:

  1. Spa day - take a weekday off work, have a deep tissue massage, body wrap, and spend the rest of the day by the pool.
  2. Wine tasting weekend - go with a girlfriend overnight to nearby Napa Valley for wine tasting, gourmet food, and relaxation.
  3. Ski trip - head out to Tahoe for a weekend of skiing, sledding, and maybe a bit of gambling.
  4. Sports Shopping - buy some new gear for the gym (new workout clothes, underwater headphones for the pool, lap counter, new shoes, etc.)
  5. Fashion Shopping - go on a shopping spree to get some decent clothes that actually fit.
  6. Vegas - go to vegas and party!

NEXT MINI-GOAL:  Get into the 160s

NEXT MAJOR-GOAL:  147.8 (another 24 lbs)

I’ll be going gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy-free this week to see if it improves my digestion and overall health.  Stay tuned to see how it goes!

I’ve been eating A LOT lately, which has been slowing my weight loss.  But  my primary focus lately has been swimming, which makes me really hungry.  But, even though I have a good excuse to eat more I need to remember that my focus is “healthy habits that lead to sustainable weight loss”.  Eating more because I’m exercising more isn’t exactly in line with that philosophy.

We’ll see how I do this week!

This week’s weight loss / gain:        Loss 1.4 pounds

Total weight loss:                             Lost 38 pounds

Stiiiiiillllll working towards that next milestone goal: 172.8 (40 pounds lost). My sights are set on that spa day at the Lafayette Park Hotel.

I swam 3 times the first week I had the gym, and again 3 times this past week.  Maybe this week I will try for 4 times.
