A Fresh Start (Day 1)

Greetings,
Yes, I know I haven’t updated this website in awhile. I have been so busy trying to deal with everything lately. A quick recap of things that have happened lately:
1) I packed up my gear and moved from Memphis to St Louis. It took about 2 weeks to move everything from point A to point B, including furniture, books, cat, and of course me.
2) The relationship from hell has finally ended. Yay! I am in the process of trying to find someone interesting to spend time with, but for now I am not interested in anything serious. There is entirely too much drama in a long-term relationship, lol.
3) I learned to drive on the interstate. Epic win! : )
All during these things I was following destructive eating patterns and gaining and losing the same couple of pounds. Then, I kind of ended up in a place that I didn’t like… I was spending way too much time on the internet and not making a lot of progress in any areas of my life, let alone on my weight.
My mom and I have been having an interesting discussion lately about choices in life. It has become clear to Mom lately that what you do with your life is a choice, and you can choose to self-destruct into oblivion, or you can choose to be proactive and do something about your problems while you still have the ability to do so. It’s a lesson we can all use, and having these discussions with my mom is very enlightening.
I have chosen, as it were, to be more proactive in my life. Here are some of things I have been doing to keep myself on track thus far:
- Exercise! It is very important. I exercise for 20-40 minutes a day at a local gym, and try to get out and do things when I’m not exercising.
- I record everything I eat using The Daily Plate. It is a free website that allows you to record your caloric intake, as well as find out how much sodium, fat, sugars, fiber, &c that you’re taking in.
- When I do eat something fattening, I use one of my mom’s ice cream bowls. If you don’t have them I would recommend getting them, they hold about half a cup or so. That way, your bowl is full and you feel like you’re eating a lot. (Same thing works for plates.)
- I try to plan ahead when I go out. I’ll search the 3FC to see if anyone has any suggestions for food that are low in calories. I try to get sauces and things on the sides, and divide things into half portions if it doesn’t work out.
I hope I don’t sound pretentious or anything, having only lost a few pounds myself, but if I could help someone it would be a really awesome thing. : )
Anyhoo, I’m off to the wonderful world of Barnes and Noble, much more to come.
