Today I was stuck in training all day, but I managed to eat pretty decently (minus the late night snack). Pretty excited about that. Last night I ran and I was surprised that I didn’t do too badly! I ran a mile and a half without stopping at around a 4.5mph average. So, clearly I wasn’t sprinting, but I was more than jogging. If I can motivate myself I’ll run again tonight, or maybe take a walk with the hubbs, but honestly… reading about the super typhoon headed our way sounds so much cooler!

Oh 3FC, how I have missed you. Sure, I read a blog every now and again when I am feeling out of control, but I haven’t posted in almost a year?! Can that be so? This last year of my life has been CRAZY. And you know what? Although the ENTIRE time I have worried about my weight, I weigh the exact same… up 7 pounds from my pre-Japan weight. Ironic. Here’s the year recap…

In June last year I get the crazy idea to take the CPA exam, you know… the one with the lower than 50% pass rate that you can only take in the US. So I buy some materials, put off grad school and get to studying. I have to arrange with my husband a schedule so he can be sure he’s able to get the boys after school and take care of them for a week (not easy when you are married to a Marine!), fly roughly 24 hours with layovers, fight jet lag, and THEN take that stupid test. I took one section and passed. Waited 2 months and took another and passed. Waited a month and took the 3rd and FAILED. So what do I do? Nothing. I keep studying for the last one and since it’s so expensive to fly to the states and take off work, I go ahead and try to retake the one I failed with NO studying. And I pass both. haha So, now I get to call myself a CPA, which I am uber proud of :) Of course, during this time I am studying whenever I am not at work (where I got a sweet promotion, but I work a lot more than 40 hours these days), and that isn’t easy on a relationship. So add the stress of fighting hardcore with my husband to all the test anxiety and you can imagine… emotional eating. I have gained and lost the same 10 pounds this last year.

The weird part is that I am either on track for eating or for exercising, but never both at the same time. UGH! I wish I could just fix whatever is jacked up in my head so I could so both simultaneously. So, I am going to try to blog again. I’ll start with my diet tomorrow (I didn’t write anything down today). And call me out if I don’t show up!!

Well, lil man is still running a fever, so here I am home with him again today. My boss, our new CFO, just started yesterday. I am sure it looks lovely that I miss his first two days. eek! Being a mom and having a career is a constant balancing act, isn’t it? Normally I like staying home with a sick kid; I get to cuddle with them and also get my homework done, but I am done for the semester and I get bored with kid movies. I read a whole book yesterday, cleaned up the house, paid my dues to the treadmill, took him to the dr, picked up the other 2, checked the mail and mailed a package, made dinner and even did some laundry. What am I going to do today?! I guess I need to unpack a little still from my trip and reorganize the drawers in my bedroom. Maybe a little more laundry and some time on the treadmill? I run this ship too tightly if I can’t find anything to do! haha

My weight is stuck where it was yesterday, but that is still 4 pounds down from last Thursday, so whatev. The goal is to make it move in the morning. I snacked too much last night. It was a healthy snack (kashi crackers and baba ganoosh… how do you spell that?!) but again, not really needed. I was up late reading.

Breakfast: oatmeal with 1/2 banana and blueberries, nf latte (homemade again, and not so bad, if I do say so myself!)
Snack: piece of toast with pb and 1/2 banana
Lunch: cottage cheese, turkey sammy (same as yesterday but with only a smidge of avocado) and almost 1/2 an orange
Snack: some trail mix (pumpkin & sunflower seeds, raisins, dark chocolate chips) AND a chocolate covered banana
Dinner: veggie burger w/ a dab of avocado, lettuce, dijon, and some grapes and broccoli.

Note: I CAN’T STOP SNACKING!

Also, it is 7pm and no exercise yet. I am PMS-y and I don’t wanna do anything but read and see what happens to Sookie next. haha I am such a winner :)

Or, more appropriately, the doctor. My youngest is sick. And wants to watch the wicked witch… repeatedly. We don’t go to the dr til 1:40 and it is only 9am now… this is gonna be a long morning!

I weighed in this morning up 3 pounds. wtf?! I am not worried about it because I know I did everything right, so it must just be a weird fluctuation. I ran yesterday, too, and I always gain initially when I run. I am going to stick to walking for now. My body is so weird. I need the numbers to go down to keep me motivated for now, though, so I’ll take it down a notch.

Breakfast: 1/2c oatmeal with blueberries and a homemade latte (nf)
Lunch: turkey sammy (2 slices light bread, dijon mustard, 1/2 avocado, romaine lettuce (let’s hope I don’t get the e-coli)), with some cottage cheese, and part of my son’s pb&honey sammy. eek.
Snack: yogurt with blueberries and a bit of granola
Dinner: TBD. I have thawed chicken, but what shall I do with it? I am thinking of making sweet potato fries. We’ll see.*UPDATE: 1/2 grilled chicken breast, some brussel sprouts, and my fav… sweet potatoe fries! I made a yogurt dipping sauce that was okay, and I really want to find something yummy for these. I love this old fried peaches dipping sauce from home, so I am gonna look that up. :)

Exercise: 45 minutes on the treadmill (brisk walk)

The weekend!

Weekends are always a tough one for me. Really, anything without structure is difficult for me. I am a routine girl. Let’s see if I remember what I ate yesterday.

Breakfast- blueberry special k with 1/2 banana and a latte (nf)

Lunch-a breakfast buffet! (it was a date day with my middle son who is in dire need of attention according to his behavior at school. ugh) 1.5 biscuits with small amount of gravy, a few bites of a french toast slice, 1/4 waffle with blueberries, and a small amount of scrambled eggs.

Dinner- another buffet, only of my own creation. It was game night! We had hummus and celery, carrots, cheese and crackers, cashews, grapes, apples, oranges… I think that’s it. I did pretty good at eating reasonable portions.

Snack- lemon ginger tea that I brought home from London. I. LOVE. London. LOVED it!

We hit up the library yesterday because it is STILL raining (gonna rain all day today, too) and then I had a date with my middle son. We bought him some new clothes and a new toy. He also picked a new toy up for his little brother. He’s so thoughtful :) No formal exercise, though. I was just busy busy and a tad lazy, too!

Today we are going to the movies, so I need to make sure I do not snack on anything bad there. I will take a bag of celery to chew on. I am down almost 7 pounds from the dr visit on Thursday (I know a lot of this was swelling from my trip… I just got back from a 2 week jaunt in Europe), and that is totally motivating. I am only 8 pounds heavier than when I left California to move to Japan. If I can get back to there in the next month I will die from excitement. Literally.

Food today:
Breakfast- some faux eggs, scrambled (the eggs here are ick so I bought some in a carton… I can’t remember what they are called, but they were actually pretty good) and two slices of light wheat bread with all fruit jam. Oh, and about 4 oz of OJ and a latte!! YUM.

Lunch- english muffin pizza (3 halves of English muffins, tiny bit of mozzarella, pizza sauce, black olives and low fat yogurt with some blueberries and a sprinkle of granola

Dinner- I am making split pea soup, but it is taking WAY too long and I am hungry! So, I may transfer it to the stove soon. I still haven’t gotten on the treadmill, so I might do that and just try to forget I am so snacky! UPDATE: switched it to the stove and it turned out delish! I ate a pretty large portion with a few wheat thins (out to get the boys to eat their soup… they’ll eat anything dipped with wheat thins.) and then for a snack later ate a few cheeze-its.

Okay Brandie, you have set the bar for me. I will tackle the Insanity videos, but honestly… I am so not in shape right now. I am setting myself a date of June 1 to start them. If I consistently use the treadmill between now and then I should be okay. Well, as okay as you can get when you are doing Insanity! ha. That being said, I will aim for at least 3 miles on the treadmill tonight. Promise :)

UPDATE Exercise: a little over 2.5miles in 45 minutes on the treadmill while I was learning Japanese. I have a new learning program that is audio only. Pretty awesome! :) I would have done the whole three miles, but the soup boiled over. Always something…

We are off to watch one of my favs, The Wizard of Oz! I am really wanting to watch it since I saw Wicked in London. LOVE it! Hope all you chickies are having a great weekend!!

It is a rainy mess here! I am seriously thinking this lack of sunshine is affecting my mood. Ick.

Breakfast- plain oatmeal w/2 strawberries
Lunch-(out to a teppenaki place, but I tried to be good and made them use olive oil instead of butter!) fish, soup, a small amount of rice, bean sprouts, salad, onions & potatoes. I know, random.
Dinner- will be miso soup and sushi, but I will practice restraint

Exercise-will be an hour on the treadmill. No excuses.
**Only squeezed out 20 minutes. :( We got home so late after dinner that I hopped right on and my stomach was hurting.

In other news, I am so ready to leave work! It has been a productive day, but it’s nearly 3:30 and I am over it! I have no weekend plans now that school is over, which is nice, but stinky because it is going to rain all weekend so no beach or bike riding.

How are all my favorite chickies doing?! Brandie, I see you are plugging right along! I love your determination :)

Okay, here we go again. I have gained a total of about 10 pounds since we moved to Japan and I need it gone. ASAP. I’ll tell you more about why later, when I am in a writing mood.

Exercise- 1 hour on the treadmill (walking)

Food-
Breakfast- grapenuts w skim and a bit of sugar and a nonfat latte
Lunch- 6in turkey sub with lots of veggies and honey mustard
Snack- apple
Dinner- chicken breast, steamed potatoes and broccoli (very reasonable portion)
Dessert- few cashews and a sugar free cupcake thing (pretty good actually)

I’m not sure of my calories because I didn’t weigh and measure my food. I don’t want to get too into it; I just want to be mindful of what I am eating. In the afternoons I have been drinking lots of hot tea at work and it helps to avoid the massive amounts of junk in my office. I share an office with 3 tiny Japanese women… how they eat all this crap, don’t exercise and remain tiny I will never know. What I do know is that I can’t!!

Well, I am shocked that I can say I have had two good days of eating in a row. It’s funny how planning and preparation make all the difference for me. I am either in control or wowza, I am not. Monday I did Day 1 of Insanity, which was just the fit test (but still hard!) and then at lunch I did 30 minutes on the stair stepper and some upper body weights. Today I ditched working out all together! This morning we over slept (I actually woke up, but I was freezing and not getting out of bed!!) and then I took a quick lunch and left work early to take my 4yo to Sesame Street Live, the USO edition. It was really great to have Elmo tell him that when Daddy is gone it is okay to feel sad, but that you need to help extra and do things to stay in touch. He got a cool little toy, too, and of course he loves that. Ironically his Daddy is not coming home tonight, because he has duty, so we read a book like Elmo suggested and now they are out like a light! Let’s see if I can remember my food for the day…

B: protein shake– 6oz skim, 1/2 banana, 1 scoop cake batter protein powder
S: oatmeal
L: turkey wrap, cheesestick, yogurt, grapes
S: some fruit, granola bar
D: rice, homemade stir fry with green beans, broccoli, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, and some homemade miso soup (which I am getting good at making, but I had too much seaweed in this batch… it’s hard to tell because it is dehydrated when you put it in!)
S: leftover veggies only

And I think I drank only 1 bottle of water today. Oops!

Okay, I seriously need a swift kick in the ass. I can feel all the old habits creeping back in and I don’t like it, but there is a part of me that just lets it happen! I am about 5-10 pounds heavier than I was when we left California, and I needed to lose 10-15 pounds then. The working out part I have down. It is in my schedule and accounted for every week. The diet part? I can’t find my groove here in Japan!! The problem all boils down to portion control. I can piss and moan about the food that I miss from California, but it isn’t going to change that it isn’t like that here. I need to find other go to fruits and veggies to have in stock. One of the problems is that the produce here is natural, which HELLO, I love!! but also I have realized that it spoils WAY faster than our GMO foods in the states. I can’t go to the store every day for fresh foods like the Japanese do. I am taking 6 hours of graduate classes this semester, just got a promotion at work so I am learning a new job with supervisory duties, and the boys still aren’t done with basketball season. The store every day is just not doable. So what can I do?? Also, lunch choices are limited because I work out at lunch (I work literally right in front of the gym) so I eat in like 10 minutes and there is no microwave at work! So it has to be a cold lunch. Really, the problem is dinner, though, and I know I am just too lazy. I am going to make myself plan this week’s menu out today and shop for it tomorrow (today we are driving up to Nago for the Cherry Blossom festival!)

Today I will make a change and be true to myself.
