Week Two C25K

9:30 and still lots to do.  Just want to track my stuff somewhere.  Started week 2 of c25k.  Ran 90 seconds and walked 60, re-read the plan after my walk and realized I was suppose to walk for 2 minutes.  But it worked out so I think I’ll stick to it the way I did it today.  I figure I’m going to need to add 1/4 mile each week to be ready for Bah Humbug.  If I have to walk/run so be it - I would rather do that than go overboard and hurt myself.  BUT I don’t wan’t to aim for that right now.  Other obsessions include what to wear this week.  I have my first job interview in nine years and of course I have no clothes.  Back in my working days I wouldn’t have dreamed of going to an interview in slacks but it’s not 9 years ago  - the anal retentive girl has left the building and quite frankly if it ain’t jeans then I’m dressed up.    I don’t even know if I own a top that doesn’t have a peanut butter or jelly stain on it.   I’m going for a teacher’s aide position at my kids’ school.  Will be short of a miracle if I get it since I was kinda of in the principal’s face last year for lack of doing anything with the school bully bugging my kid.  Hmmm….should be an interesting interview!  But the teacher’s love me and know me from volunteering in their classrooms so we’ll see how it goes…I hate buying and outfit for a job that pays so little but ….I have til Thursday to figure that one out.

Okay notes to myself:  2 miles in 30 minutes on treadmill.  Walking was about 3.8 and jogging 4.7 averages.  Haven’t gotten fitday stats in but DS7 wanted to go to Chinese Buffet for his b-day dinner so I know that blew me over the top - good thing I was low yesterday.

Tired Legs

We did a family hike today in the hills, probably 4 miles, all up hill the first two and downhill back.  Could really feel it in my upper thighs on the way down.  I originally was resting today with just a walk on the treadmill planned but my legs were tired this morning so I figured after our hike (which none of us were expecting to be so steep).  Needless to say the hike was enough.  Overall it was a good day.  I finally have a quiet evening to myself, have a chick movie I’m thinking of watching or just lighting some candles and listening to music while I stuff goodie bags for DS’s party on Monday (He’s 7 tomorrow I can’t beleive it).  Anyways, calories are sooo good I’m not even tempted to mess them up.  A little low, but they balance the rest of the week out.  Goodnite!

Exercise - 2 Hour/apprx 4 mile Hike in the Hills.  Fit day gave me 440 calories burned Wow that’s generous :P

Went to the track this evening, DH wanted to see what distance I could actually do.  When he suggested a lap I laughed - I thought, maybe, at 1/2 of the lap but I made it the whole way!  So I can run 1/4 mile.  A good start.  On the way over he was trying to give me pointers, try not to “bounce” he says, it’s a common beginner thing.  And I’m thinking I was totally bouncing earlier today on the treadmill.  Anyways, I was so focused on it I think 1/2 the lap went by before I knew it.   Fortunately the track was quiet, it can get really busy once school is in.  Lots of football practices going on in the areas around but thankfully I didn’t feel like I was in a fishbowl.  There were two other woman who had been running and were walking/cooling off, I so  did not want to go past them, I know I shouldn’t care.  I was just looking at their racer back shirts thinking gosh it would be nice to wear one of those without back cleavage!  Anyways it’s Friday which means GN or girls night.  My DD10 and I have sleep overs friday nights, and heaven forbid I mess it up!  Good night ladies!  Oh, and a note, my shoes felt better on the track.  Just like they do when we hike the dirt trails vs. the treadmill.

I can NOT beleive I actually walked into a Starbucks and didn’t order anything.  I was kind of on auto pilot and found myself in the parking lot when my DD10 announces she needs to pee (yes we just left the house 4 minutes ago).  So we went in, I did for a brief moment get in line and thought, why am I here?  So I sat down, got the deposit slip ready (bank was the next stop) and then walked out!  It’s the little things in life.

 My workout is done - 30 minutes c25k interval thing for the full 30 minutes, I think I don’t like my shoes - darn….Feels like the arch is way too far over and the toes are kinda too roomy, I really hate the thought of new shoes and insoles are just as much.  Won’t worry about it today.    Anyways, it’s too early for stats, but I cleared 300 on the calories burned, WOW never done that before, I kinda like the running thing.  Of course fit day will probably give me credit for 100 calories.  I hate how it’s always so much lower than what my treadmill says.  Hubby calls (after my workout of course) and wants to go to the track tonight to see distance wise what I can do, maybe he’s a bit tooo excited about this??   Okay I’ll be back later, if you knew my obsession with Starbucks you’d know this was a bit of a milestone for me today :D

That’s right. I have my race picked out - December 6th! Bah Humbug 5k. My ds (almost 9) is also doing it as his first 5k  (Last weekend was supposed to be his first but dh didn’t get enough training in with him).   Something tells me he’ll kick my butt, he already runs 2 miles with dh. I know the c25k says 3 times a week but I did the plan today as well. I was thinking of everyother day, I’m not sure. I definitely felt more tired and was happier to see the 20 minutes gone to turn it into a walk, but I also found a good stride where it wasn’t so uncomfortable, at times I could feel it in my knees and shins. The shoes I have I got fitted from Roadrunner sports but I had them fitted for speed walking before I decided on running and obviously there are different things going on when you run.  Money has been tight, especially with the kids needing back to school stuff so I’m gonna wait and hopefully they’ll work out fine.  I know if (oops) WHEN I complete my 5K I’m rewarding myself with a cute running outfit :)   Until then the usual grub.  I used to plan a reward for going a month without starbucks but right now that feels like saying “When I’m the Queen of England..”

Okay, calories aren’t stellar, I could NOT help myself to stop into Starbucks today - I had all the plans to order a tea but my Barista had already started my regular mocha before I got to the counter - what’s a girl to do?  Stop going in is what, but if have my reasons…All in all it’s not the worst count.  Here’s my stats:

Day Three

Okay I really need a better title.  I’m reading some of these blogs…you ladies are so gifted!  The things I want to say always sounds crafty in my head and then I write it down and mmmmm not so much then.  Anyways, did my second c25k workout for the week.  Stepped it up a notch, and was running at a faster pace (funny it was around 4.7 like tiny2b mentioned tonight in her blog).  Covered  2 miles in just over 31 minutes (20 minutes c25k then 10 extra walking), usually I cover a total of 1.5 miles when I’m doing my fast walks so that’s better.  I was a bit concerned since on my first work out the distance wasn’t any different then when I just do a straight walk. 

I could also feel it more in the knees and shins though.  I was a bit concerned about that.  A few years ago I had an incident and my knee hurt off an on after that.  Meaning I’d have a bad few days where I couldn’t bear weight on it.  The past year it’s been good though.  Just gonna plug along, I have to admit it feels good to sweat!

 Wish I could be as disciplined with my food.  But I’m definitely better.  Honestly I’m not really trying.  Tonight I went to an information meeting for getting my teacher’s credential.  Darn it is an intense program.  I just don’t think with 3 kids that it’s feasible.  Not if I want to be part of my family too.  There are other programs I might look into, I’m not sure if it’s totally where I want to put my energy and go in debt with student loans for anyways.  What I really want is to work in the Library, but I like the idea of working as a librarian in the schools.  Unfortunately you need your regular credential on top of the specialty credential for that.  

Okay haven’t counted calories yet for the day but exercise wise

Today was an “off” day according to the schedule so I did my 30 minute treadmill walk on an incline.  I have to look up if those little holes to set the incline have certain percentages.  Trying to figure out the calories and such things ask if it’s a 5% or 10%, haven’t a clue, all I know is it’s on the 4th hole.  Okay the thing is that today I did 30 minutes on an incline and covered 1.75 miles.  Yesterday I did the running interval thing and walked my last 10 minutes for a full 30 minute workout and did 1.77 miles (with the treadmill nearly flat)…not much different….hmmm.  I’m thinking something is adrift.  I know my heart rate was defiinitely up more running,  but with the incline you’d think I’d cover less ground.  I printed the c25k program out for my dh to review, he’s a long time runner, and get his imput too.  And, there’s not much info on it yet, but there is a local race in December, first weekend I think, so I think that is my target date.  There is no info about it up yet but I’m going to plan for it.  There is another one in November but it also includes a 6 mile family hike and I want to do that one with the whole family so it’s a hiking that day.

Exercise for the day good.  30 minutes, 1.75 miles, 228 calories burned.  Food not so good, a big cookie and tonight an english muffin.  In my defense I was getting hungry but thinking about another big cookie and decided to go for the english muffin…okay there was a bowl of fruit next to the toaster so I’m not all that great…  Off to bed, want to get my work out in early so we can hit the road and do some errands.
