A great New Year’s Day
Relax January 2nd, 2009We had a lovely lovely day yesterday.
Started by a visit to an art exhibition, followed by going to lunch out at a nice brasserie, where I wasn’t too hungry but was very in touch with what I wanted, so I had soup (which turned out to be probably the best soup of my life - cream of scallops with truffles. To die for. Not light, but it’s all I had, so it’s fine). Ate it ALL on purpose. Also ordered a rice pudding w caramel sauce, but didn’t enjoy it so ate very little of it.
Then we went to the gym, a quick shower and ran to catch a movie. Brought really good chocolate from home instead of eating movie theatre junk, but then my DH wanted to stay and watch a SECOND movie and that time I ordered popcorn (which is WAY less good in France, probably because it’s never popped fresh), and we also bought candy which was not very good and I wish I hadn’t eaten (to my credit I didn’t eat much, but even what I did eat I regretted).
I wasn’t hungry for dinner when we came home, although I did nibble on some fantastic truffle-stuffed brie we’d bought for New Year’s Eve (but hadn’t eaten).
Breakfast : 2 peices of bread w butter and jam (on one side, made into a sandwich)
Lunch : scallop cream soup with truffles, one peice french bread w butter, 1/3 cup rice pudding w caramel sauce
Exercise : 45 min elliptical
Snack : chocolate, popcorn, gummy candies at movies
Snack : 1 oz brie w truffles

YOU want to hear something really bad that I do but really helps in a theatre? I sneak in my own food! I take in a huge purse and sneak in my own low carb tortilla turkey rollup from Subway , fruit, and a bag of baked chips. I buy my diet soda that to make myself feel less guilty. LOL I eat, enjoy the movie, and stay on plan.

I just wanted to say how you have come so far. I remember when you first started working w/the nutritionist (I can’t remember her name) and now you just casually mention how it didn’t taste very good so you only ate a little bit. It has become second nature to you, that’s definitely something to celebrate!!

Greetings, Round, and a happy new year to you!! Did I mention how miserable it is in New England presently? And what a smart, smart girl you are for removing yourself from Chicago after 3 winters? I am now experiencing my (Oh my gawd, I can’t even SAY the number, it’s so big!) something-something winter HERE, and to say that my sanity is in question is a gross understatement of the obvious. How I envy your life in France! I’m liking the way you are gradually changing your relationship with food, too. My sense is that it’s something that once fully achieved - over time, and without deadlines - it will be a life-long change, and one that will keep you healthy and fit all your life. So, I just wanted to say Good going, Round - and I wish you all the best in 2009!
Hugs,
Z

your daay sounds great. I think you did well on your food, despite the second movie catastrophe. I also sneak in food, but I haven’t been to the movies since my new lifetsyle change. I have to laugh at what JOY does… maybe it would work if you leave off the onions! I’ve never snuck in something that big, just small things of candy. I’m even afraid to bring in Cuties because they also have a strong odor…hmmm… something to look forward to figuring out though, next time I go to the movies.

Your day sounds wonderful… but that soup? That sounds divine!

Your soup sounds amazing; my mouth is watering. We had the traditional “Good Luck” dinner at the in-laws: porkchops, black-eyed peas, cabbage, and mashed potatoes. It’s hardly truffle soup, but it was fantastic! Happy New Year!

Boy, that WAS the perfect day!
I’ve never tried truffles ~ at age 50! I’ll put that on my “to do” list for 2009.
Wishing you a Happy New Year!
