Fat hands with sausage fingers
Motivate June 4th, 2008I have never liked my hands. All my life I looked at other women’s hands and saw elegance and grace and I always saw a toddler’s chubby appendages at the end of my own arms. Chubby fingers, fatty hands. At least for the moment no wrinkles on them, which is small solace.
My hands get really fat around 200 pounds and I only see the faintest hint of veins in my hands around 170 pounds. I’ve never been at a weight where my hands were pretty.
Right now my fingers look like sausages and many of my rings don’t fit or can only be worn for a few hours before I worry about cutting off circulation. My wedding and engagement rings are really tight and if I have too much salt.. it’s not pretty. Sometimes my ring finger even tingled a little back when I started again at 215 pounds, and that tingling (which I know can be dangerous) was part of the motivation to get myself losing weight again - because I was not about to go without my wedding ring just to keep eating and eating. Right now I can get my engagement ring on and off but not the wedding ring…
I really want my rings to fit properly (and I secretly dream of having to have them resized several times as I lose!). I have several lovely rings my DH gave me for my birthday and other holidays a few years back that I can’t wear right now.
What I am waiting for is for my rings to be fitting properly again. And then to start getting loose.

That same thing happens to me too with rings! I have a ring that I bought in Peru last year that fit perfectly on my middle finger when I bought it. Then as I gained +20 lbs this year, it just didn’t fit and made me so sad. Now, as I’ve been losing it’s starting to fit, and now it’s actually loose on my middle finger sometimes. I’ve actually also noticed that my rings are a really good way for me to tell if I am getting enough water, because i know if I am really well hydrated, that my ring fits well, but if it doesnt, it means I still need to drink some more water. anyways! just wanted to say that I know exactly what you mean about the rings!
Looks like you’re doing a great job and keeping on track! congrats!

I have had that problem. I used to get crazy panicky about my wedding band. I don’t know how to explain it other than sort of like claustrophobia of the fingers or something. It got so tight that I had to do that floss trick to pull it off of my finger. So I left it off for a long time (maybe years?) and only wore my engagement ring and wrap thingie. It felt good to get to the point where I could wear it again. Best of luck to you!

i hear you about the rings, i knew it had gotten bad when my engagement ring became uncomfortable. But now its because of sodium, the only time it hurts is when i have to much salt.

I am with you on the fingers, always hated mine. Look like little pork sausages. My mom had beautiful long fingers with gorgeous nails. I obviously inherited my dads
I hate when my rings are tight, and it is a good way to tell if I am over eating or getting too much salt.

If it’s any consolation to you, my hands looked just horrible after I lost my 75 lbs. They were spindly with lots of loose skin, like an old woman’s hands. With 20 lbs added back, my hands look a lot better (even though my stomach doesn’t!).

You should take a monthly photo of your hands with your rings on and use them as a sort of “before and after” tracking device. Track your progress through how your rings : )
