The excuses are coming to an end…
Motivate February 25th, 2008My DH’s surgery today went well, and it’s now behind us. Sure, he’ll be in the hospital for a while and will be in pain and then when he gets off the morphine will probably be grouchy because he can’t do everything he wants, but the worst is over and the surgeon said that it was a success (granted, who’s ever heard a surgeon say otherwise? Not I…)
I have been nervous-eating for a few days but my excuses are going away and feeling like a bloated slug is getting old.
The good news is that the hospital is not on a direct metro line so it’s a 15-20 minute train ride (with a change) plus a 5 minute walk to get there, so I just walk it directly which only takes 20 minutes and gives me a small amount of exercise, 40 minutes walking daily guaranteed for at least a week. Not bad.
I’m thinking of doing some of the exercises around Preparing to Lose Weight over the coming days. I have some of these collected from prior attempts and some newsletters, plus I have the Beck Diet Solution book that I might dip into. I figure some good thinking might help get my mind ready to force my body into action.

Happy to hear you husband’s surgery went well. I havent written in a while but i have been keeping my blog updated. Best wishes on starting up your diet again. I know it can sometimes look like a struggle but one day at a time and i am sure better eating and exercise will become part of your daily routine, it’s just strating up that’s tough. Like i remember when i started working out on my stepper a few months ago, it was such a drag and i dreaded it. This morning i was really looking forward to my workout (it has become such a habit and i feel great afterwards) and when i got on my stepper, it broke. I was so disoriented and did not know what to do to get some exercise in. It was a great feeling to know i really wanted it. I remembered I had an old stationary bike in the back room so i dragged it out and got 20 min in (although i hate biking). So now i am looking to purchase an elliptical machine. I have also been attending OA, and its helping me a lot.
I truly wish you all the best and i enjoy reading your updates.
Keep well,
Natalie

I’m SO glad your DH’s surgery went well. Can you believe we actually think about these things, us readers of yours?
Anyway, I’m totally there > the slug right next to you. Lets visualize fat little catapillars instead of slugs (or beached whales in my case) , and spin a coccoon and metamorphosize into lovely butterflies….. what do you say?

So happy about your husband’s successful surgery. I hope you’ll find ways to keep those 40 minutes of gentle walks in your daily routine even after the necessity of them has passed.
