Eat what you want…
Food, Low Stress Weight Loss November 29th, 2007…I’ll fill you in on Dr Hope tomorrow, but suffice it to say I followed my diet doctor’s advice and had whatever I wanted for dinner tonight.
It was pizza.
She planted the idea in my head.
I followed my hunger and had a light lunch (soup, cottage cheese and a pear). Cottage cheese is actually a huge treat for me, it’s really hard to find in France and very expensive but something I really like so I buy it from time to time. I felt like dessert so I had that too, but not a lot, and I didn’t eat one thing because I didn’t LOVE it. How’s that for progress?
Just because I can’t let go, I entered everything into my food diary, and guess what? I’m slightly under for the day anyway.
Ha ha ha ha ha….

Very Good!
You’re living in France - how lovely! No wonder you saw Ratatouille in French and not surprising that unique approach to dieting…only eat the food if you LOVE it. Seems like excellent advice. I’ve been seeing snippets of information here and there on this approach in magazines and books that I read.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. You’re doing great! I love the idea of only eating what you love. Such a simple concept, why didn’t we all think of it sooner!?!

That’s always a great feeling when you tote it up and you’re still under -way to go!
I like this philosophy too. I’ve resigned from the clean plate club for quite a while now and I don’t eat things just because I bought/ordered them. Life is too short to eat crappy food!

I agree. I am also working on eating only the food that I like. I love good food, so can’t give up that. But definitely can stop eating bad food. It is a good idea. But I am not so good on moderation, which is the key here.
I am also thinking of a food diary, where I would log what I ate, how was the food, did I eat after I was full and my mood at that time. Hopefully it would make me more conscious.

This is great! I’m a huge advocate of ‘Eat What You Want’… along with that I ask people to Eat Only When Hungry and Eat Slowly etc… It’s so easy to enjoy the foods you like if you take a few moments to consider the food, both before you eat it and by maintaining focus during eating.
Lots of people find that by using these methods they discover they don’t really want to eat crap anymore… once they’ve figured out how it makes them feel.
Here’s a comment from someone i work with that i’d love to share with you (English is not her first language so please excuse):
“My intention is to use this method till the end of my life. Since its beginning, I said to myself I can eat whatever I wish, provide I eat when I am hunger and eat slowly. Additionaly, I should remember that I want to feel good, and that means in good shape and good humour. I have a friend who is on a diet. He is sometimes a little bit angry with restrictions. I have no restrictions. I am relaxed and discovering new pleasures. I deeply dislike diets. I like to eat. I have never ate with such pleasure. I learnt to eat slowly and this made all the difference. I also love freedom. In this sense, I am much more free. I decide what I will eat instead of eating without choice. Now, I am learning to chose other things. I am learning to use the web. I am learning to use it slowly and making choices. Another important change is that whatever emotion or feeling I had in the past, I use to thought about food. Or, if I would meet or visit someone, my mind was always thinking of food. This is not happening. And curiously, most times I realise I just need a glass of water! While food isn’t anymore my number one worry, I insist, I’ve never ate with such pleasure! - ‘S’ from Brazil”
