Weekly Weigh-in - June 28th, 2009

This morning’s weigh-in was 239.0, which is 0.4 pounds down from last week. This week has been really weird weight-wise. If it hadn’t been for the weird mid-week readings I’d have assumed that maybe this was a bit of a slow-down. I knew mid week that I was likely retaining water, so stepped on the scale to find I was 3 pounds up from Sunday. Thursday was worse as I was up about 4 pounds. I’m actually a little surprised that I ended up down at all. Since I haven’t changed food, exercise, water intake, etc. I’m assuming it was the heat that did it. Anyway the 9-week loss is 20.4lbs (2.27/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 61 on plan with food.

The next couple of weeks will show high losses per week as I drop the spike off the graph. In a way they should be ignored as much as the gain weeks. With that thinking it will be about 2 weeks before all is back to normal. I did briefly see 233.6 at the end of March, so seriously, no congratulations until then!

Next week’s plan is:

Continue Fat Loss II phase of New Rules of Lifting, 3 days a week. 30-45 min walks 5 days a week (with my mother), aiming for 45 mins on non-lifting days. For July I’ll likely continue at the same food levels - 2000 on non-workout days and 2250-2300 on lifting days and see how that goes. I may take a maintenance week for week 9 of NROL. That would be after next Sunday. It’s supposed to be a full rest week (no weights, no intervals). I’ll likely keep up the morning walks though.

And the 9-week graph…

Weekly Weigh-in - June 21st, 2009

This morning’s weigh-in was 239.4, which is 1.4 pounds down from last week. My weight was actually lower yesterday, but for whatever reason I’m up a little this morning. The 9-week loss is 13.8lbs (1.53/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 54 on plan with food.

Weekly Weigh-in - June 14th, 2009

This morning’s weigh-in was 240.8, which is 1.8 pounds down from last week. The 9-week loss is 6.2lbs (.69/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 47 on plan with food.

So it’s finally in a loss situation. I would think that the next couple of weeks will show high losses per week as I drop the spike off the graph. In a way they should be ignored as much as the gain weeks. With that thinking it will be about 4 weeks before all is back to normal. Weekly Weigh-in - June 7th, 2009

Something weird happened this morning. I forgot to weigh myself. I’ve been trying to get away from the daily weigh-ins, since they really don’t show me how I’m doing (they often bounce around too much to really help). I got so out of the habit in only one week that I’d finished my breakfast and the morning liter of water before I thought about it. So I weighed myself at that point and decided to subtract 3lbs from the total (wasn’t entirely disposed to getting naked, 2.2lbs for the water, and the rest for the breakfast).

So, this morning’s guess at a weigh-in was 242.6, which is 1.4 pounds down from last week. The 9-week gain, however, is 1.8lbs (.20/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 40 on plan with food.

Assuming that things go well next week I should definitely be in a loss over the 9-week period, although still a ways away from the lowest weight seen. I did briefly see 233.6 at the end of March, so seriously, no congratulations until then!

Next week’s plan is:

Start Fat Loss II phase of New Rules of Lifting, 3 days a week. 30-45 min walks 5 days a week (with my mother), aiming for 45 mins on non-lifting days. For June I’ll likely continue at the same food levels - 2000 on non-workout days and 2250-2300 on lifting days and see how that goes.

Weekly Weigh-in - May 31st, 2009

This morning’s weigh-in was 244.0, which is 1.6 pounds down from last week. The 9-week gain, however, is 9.4lbs (1.04/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 33 on plan with food.

Scary how quickly my weight went up, isn’t it? The quick drop appears to be over. I suppose I’d hoped that it would last longer. I did briefly see 233.6 at the end of March, so seriously, no congratulations until then!

Next week’s plan is:

Continue the Break-in phase of New Rules of Lifting, 3 days a week. 30-45 min walks 5 days a week (with my mother), aiming for 45 mins on non-lifting days. I’m a day behind week-3 (which actually ends in week-4), so I’ll be doing the last workout on Tuesday, taking only Thursday off. For June I’ll likely continue at the same food levels - 2000 on non-workout days and 2250-2300 on lifting days and see how that goes.

Weekly Weigh-in - May 24th, 2009

A real quickie post, as I need to go start planting!

This morning’s weigh-in was 245.6, which is 2.0 pounds down from last week. The 9-week gain, however, is 10.6lbs (1.18/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 26 on plan with food.

Scary how quickly my weight went up, isn’t it? The quick drop appears to be over. I suppose I’d hoped that it would last another week or so, although I’m in the middle of my period at the moment, and my weight is often wonky around that time.

For May at least that I’ll do 2000 on non-workout days and 2250-2300 on lifting days and see how that goes.

And the depressing little graph…

Weekly Weigh-in - May 17th, 2009

This morning’s weigh-in was 247.6, which is 2.2 pounds down from last week. The 9-week gain, however, is 10.8lbs (1.2/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 19 on plan with food.

Weekly Weigh-in - May 10th, 2009

Well, I might as well come clean about where I am. The weight still continues to drop madly, but I know at some point it will stop. I’m hoping later than sooner, but who knows. I was going to wait until I settled into a ‘normal’ loss, but figured I might as well share the bad instead of just the good.

This morning’s weigh-in was 249.8, which is 5.0 pounds down from last week, and 9.6 from two weeks ago. The 9-week gain, however, is 11.2lbs (1.24/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 12 on plan with food.

Scary how quickly my weight went up, isn’t it? The only positive thing is that it seems to be coming down just as quickly. Although as I said, I’m sure at some point it will stop and I’ll have to work hard at losing the weight again. I did briefly see 233.6 at the end of March, so seriously, no congratulations until then!

Next week’s plan is:

Start the Break-in phase of New Rules of Lifting, 3 days a week. 30-40 min walks 5 days a week (with my mother). For May at least that I’ll do 2000 on non-workout days and 2250-2300 on lifting days and see how that goes.

Weekly Weigh-in - Mar 29th, 2009

This morning’s weigh-in was 234.6, which is 0.4 pounds down from last week. The 9-week loss is 11.2lbs (1.24/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 37 on plan with food.

So this week was disappointing, but still kind of on plan. I’m fighting off the spring flu (which everyone around me seems to have), and so on Wednesday night I decided to add some extra food to the daily intake. I decided not to do it in the usual ‘maintenance week - eat what I want’. I added more protein in the form of a shake, a little extra meat at lunch, and a hot toddy or two at night to stop the coughing (which is minor and only seems to bother me at night). So, while all the guys at school are basically dead, I’m not feeling that bad. I’ll keep up the extra food until Tuesday (my last test) and then I think Thursday it’s back to my lifting routine.

The interesting point was that avoiding the typically lower percentage of protein that I end up with on maintenance weeks, my weight didn’t really shift much. I’m about a pound heavier than my lightest during the week and that still leaves me lighter than last Sunday. So, overall I’m pretty happy about that. I don’t think the chart adds much this week, but here it is:

Weekly Weigh-in - Mar 8th, 2009

This morning’s weigh-in was 238.6, which is 2.2 pounds down from last week. The 9-week loss is 13.4lbs (1.49/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 16 on plan with food.

I finally feel like I’m back in control of myself. The drop this week was nice, but some of that may be getting back to regular workouts. I’ll see how I’m doing in a couple of weeks to decide if the calorie levels are good.

Next week’s plan is:

Continue on with The New Rules of Lifting for Women, 3 days a week. Cardio if I feel like it. For March at least that I’ll do 1900 on non-workout days and 2200 on lifting days and see how that goes.
