Today’s Totals - June 11th, 2009

It’s probably a bad sign that I already have a little soreness from today’s workout… ah well, the rest of the day I did little. I went out and checked the plants, which didn’t need watering. Then we went for a swim, remarking that it looked like rain (even though it wasn’t forecast). Later, it rained of course. At least we got the swim in first. Tomorrow I’m off to buy pork loins and turkey (to smoke). I’ll likely do the pork on Saturday and the turkey in 3 or 4 days (whenever it’s thawed, brined, etc.).  I’ve only got 6 servings of soup to go and then I’ll be back to having meat for lunch.  Although my mother is quite happy having smoked turkey every day I like a little variation.  So I’ll have smoked pork loin, roast beef, and will have the occasional bit of smoked turkey.

The meatloaf turned out pretty well. It was a little soft, but I think that’s how it was cooked. Next time I’m going to use the fancy meatloaf pan that we’ve had for ages. The taste was nice, and kind of creamy, I suppose from the potato flakes.

Food for the day:

Total: 2280 calories (26% fat, 32% protein, 42% carbs)

Breakfast: two fried eggs, cracked wheat oatmeal bread, jam, orange (339)
AM Snack: none (0)
PWO Snack: protein shake with sour cherries (281)
Lunch: beef minestrone soup, parmesan cheese roll, apple (425)
PM Snack: hummus, flatbread, pisco sour (321)
Dinner: sun-dried tomato meatloaf, broccoli, butter, salad w/dressing (613)
Evening Snack: peaches, protein shake (300)

Strength Training - June 11th, 2009

Fat Loss II - B1

Since I wasn’t sure I’d have enough enthusiasm to lift in the afternoon (grey day out, the kind you want to crawl back into bed) I decided to get it done before lunch. I did a 5-min cardio warm-up outside, followed by a few inside warm-ups, then did:

A1: Snatch-grip Deadlift - 65t/12, 65t/12, 65t/12
A2: Push-ups (regular, not T) - 12, 12, 12
B1: Bulgarian Split Squat with Overhead Press - 5e/12, 5e/12, 5e/12
B2: Assisted Chin-up - 12, 12, 12
C1: Romanian Deadlift / Bent-over Row - 65t/12, 65t/12, 65t/12
C2: Lower Body Russian Twist - 12, 12, 12

Then warm-up, 4 rounds intervals (1m high, 2m moderate) and cool-down. I kind of ran out of steam during the intervals (realised that I skipped my morning snack - bad idea), but pushed through.

65 mins, 478 cals, Max HR: 171 (97%), Avg HR: 128 (72%)

Probably the two hardest for today were the Split Squats and the Russian Twist. My balance still sucks for single-leg movements, and I don’t think the overhead press weight makes much of a difference (ie. they could be heavier). I’m just wobbly on them. I will likely try heavier weights next time (to see what difference it makes). The Russian Twist is a problem because it’s a core/bodyweight movement.

Overall, not a bad workout. My breathing is a little rough today (noticed it on the morning walk), likely a combination of allergies and a past lung issue. I just keep hoping for the warm sunny weather that they promised us. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.  :)

I’ve had my post workout shake, but I suppose I should consider having lunch soon as well. As long as it’s not raining (which it isn’t supposed to) we’ll have a swim in the afternoon.
