So, I took the cone off again this morning at 6am and he had a wander around, a few bits of food (first since early Monday ~2am), and a sniff in the litter box. So he got freedom for about 20 minutes, until he started licking at the bandages. He’s obviously feeling better because it took a lot more effort to put the cone back on. The most worrying thing at the moment is that he’s not used the litter box. I don’t know if he simply doesn’t have to go, or won’t use it because he’s locked in the room with it. They’re such creatures of habit. When they’re outside we always laugh because they’ll usually run inside to use the litter, where there’s perfectly good dirt to use outside.
The odd thing is that other cat is more upset. He’s not used to being alone, and now at night I’m in my room with the door shut. He was crying in the hallway last night and slept in the office. But where I’m supposed to be watching the sick one for throwing up, the other one upchucked this morning. He’s got a nervous disposition actually and I’m glad he’s no longer hiding at least.

Well, we’re back from the vet without the bandages and (thank god) the cone. She thinks he’s healing exceptionally well and as long as he doesn’t mess with it too much it’s more important that he eat and drink. I admit, I couldn’t resist taking a picture this morning. Unfortunately he wouldn’t sit still, so this is the best of the bunch.

The rest of the day was kind of quiet. I did think about a workout, but I knew it just wasn’t going to happen. I spent the first couple of hours following the cat around to make sure he wasn’t constantly licking at his leg (he’s not), then I decided to bake (should have done it yesterday). I make parmesan cheese rolls, which were a medium success. The mix was a little wet when it came out of the breadmaker and I think over-rose on the first rise. I’ve got to pay more attention to that. So the second rise wasn’t as great, although they turned out not too bad. I think next time I won’t bother with the cheese (it was a last minute addition to make them more of a savory bread. I’d have been better off I think to just toss in some garlic and herbs. These were ‘high protein’ rolls with a blend of white flour, soy flour and protein powder. I ended up with 24, but I should have probably just made 16 so I cut 8 of them in half and I’ll use one and a half as a serving. Today I gave my mother the other half.
Oh, and I also got about 2-1/2 pounds of rhubarb from one of the neighbours, so I cleaned it, chopped it and tossed it in the freezer. The rhubarb ginger marmalade I’ll make later.
I’m planning to walk tomorrow so I’m off to my bed soon. The little cat (Shadow) is about 70% back to normal, but still a little skittish. We’ll see how long it will take him to get over the trauma of his brother’s illness.
