Today’s Totals - May 10th, 2009

The weather never really turned better. We still sucked it up and went for a swim though. We actually have a frost warning for tonight. So I went out and closed up my little tomato/pepper covers. This is basically what they look like:

They’re basically good to about -12C (10F), but I only found them recently. We’re only supposed to go down to 1C tonight so they should be fine. That’s it for me for the day, up early tomorrow for my walk.

Food for the day:

Total: 2254 calories (25% fat, 35% protein, 40% carbs)

Breakfast: 2 fried eggs, multi-grain sandwich thins, orange (472)
AM Snack: beef jerky (108)
PWO Shake: protein shake with sour cherries (281)
Lunch: multi-grain tortilla, mustard, roast eye of round, lettuce, apple (438)
PM Snack: chocolate zucchini cake (78)
Dinner: chicken and sausage gumbo with rice, salad w/dressing (585)
Evening Snack: protein shake, fruit salad (291)

Strength Training - May 10th, 2009

Okay, starting with NROL (New Rules of Lifting) today, probably with Lifter #4’s routine (serious about lifting, but seriously overweight). So that means the break-in routines followed by… intervals. Crap! I also switched back to regular squats, so I lightened the weight (as I have to lift the bar over my head to start). I just find with the front squats that I don’t go as deep as I’m afraid of tipping over.

NROL - Break-in A1

So, I did a 5-min cardio warm-up on the treadmill, followed by 10 reps each of the prescribed warm-up (except for the t-push-ups - can’t do them). Then I did:

A: Barbell Squat - 45t/15, 45t/15
B1: Static Lunge - 15e/15, 15e/15
B2: Two-pt Dumbbell Row with Elbow Out - 15e/15, 20e/15
C1: Push-up - 15, 15
C2: Swiss-Ball Crunch - 20, 20

Then I did the metabolic overdrive intervals - 3, with 5-min warm up and cool down. (19 mins total)

51 mins, 352 cals, Max HR: 165 (93%), Avg HR: 124 (70%)

I actually did this earlier in the day than planned. The weather is odd, and it’s supposed to get sunny later on. So I decided to do this before lunch so if it does get nicer in the afternoon we can have a swim. Now I’m off to have lunch!

Weekly Weigh-in - May 10th, 2009

Well, I might as well come clean about where I am. The weight still continues to drop madly, but I know at some point it will stop. I’m hoping later than sooner, but who knows. I was going to wait until I settled into a ‘normal’ loss, but figured I might as well share the bad instead of just the good.

This morning’s weigh-in was 249.8, which is 5.0 pounds down from last week, and 9.6 from two weeks ago. The 9-week gain, however, is 11.2lbs (1.24/week) which is usually the ‘number’ I look at to see how things are going overall. The other little compulsive number I look at is how many days I’ve been ‘on plan’ primarily with food. I still consider a maintenance week ‘on plan’ since I accomplished what I wanted to. So this is day 12 on plan with food.

Scary how quickly my weight went up, isn’t it? The only positive thing is that it seems to be coming down just as quickly. Although as I said, I’m sure at some point it will stop and I’ll have to work hard at losing the weight again. I did briefly see 233.6 at the end of March, so seriously, no congratulations until then!

Next week’s plan is:

Start the Break-in phase of New Rules of Lifting, 3 days a week. 30-40 min walks 5 days a week (with my mother). For May at least that I’ll do 2000 on non-workout days and 2250-2300 on lifting days and see how that goes.

And the depressing little graph…
