Today’s Totals - Apr 30th, 2009

Well, I combined a slow day with a busy one in a way. I got up in the morning and did my walk around the neighbourhood. Then I made a silly suggestion that kept me busy for the next 3 or 4 hours. The people behind us (and one house over) were having a large tree cut down and we went and talked to the guys. Normally they throw all the small to mid-sized pieces through a chipper, but said if we wanted some we could help ourselves (up to the point where they had to start). So we put the seats down on the pathfinder and got ourselves a couple of loads of wood. Some will be good kindling size, but some is the intermediate sized stuff that you sometimes need to get the hardwood we use burning well. Between that and the logs I got last week, we likely won’t need wood next winter.

So I spent the rest of the morning cutting branches small enough to get in the vehicle, dragging it out and into the backyard, cutting it into smaller pieces. I pretty much worked until the rain started (about 2pm) and I’m not done. Then I had lunch, and then did pretty much nothing, which was nice. The rain let up long enough to have a quick swim before dinner, so that was good.  Oh, and spent some time in the evening chatting on the phone with the guy I tutored in stats.  He ended with a 70 which is pretty good considering his first test was 50%.

Not sure what I’ll be up to tomorrow as the forecast doesn’t look great. Although it does look like I’ll get my walk done in the morning, but the afternoon looks iffy. My plan was to lift on Saturday, but if the weather really sucks I might try doing it tomorrow afternoon.

(written yesterday, just forgot to post!)

So, on the concept of getting back into a routine - a daily post on the day that it applies! I got my mother from the airport this morning, had a swim in the afternoon, and really didn’t do much else. Oh, I did the shopping at Costco and kept quiet in the afternoon so my mother could catch up on her sleep.

Tomorrow will be a walk in the morning, followed by some yard work. Haven’t quite decided if it will be light stuff, or a couple of the tougher projects I have in mind. So, once Lost is over, I’m off to bed.

Food for the day:

Total: 1990 calories (22% fat, 30% protein, 44% carbs, 4% alcohol)

Breakfast: chocolate zucchini cake, orange (210) <– oh yeah, baked as well
AM Snack: soy nuts (200)
Lunch: beef barley mushroom soup, multi-grain sandwich thin, apple (528)
PM Snack: hummus, flatbread, white wine (296)
Dinner: pork tenderloin, bean/carrot blend, butter, salad w/dressing (449)
Evening Snack: protein shake, fruit salad (307)

Well, my grades are up today. I ended the semester with:

100 Engineering Drawing 2
89 Electricity Lecture
92 Electricity Lab
100 Problem Solving
93 Mech Int Algebra
96 Statistics 2
99 Creative Thinking

That gives me a GPA (as each are weighted slightly different) of 95.94

The funny thing is that the 100% in the drawing class could only have come from marking on a curve. I was sitting 45/50 going into the Solidworks portion of the course (which I know I did very well on), so the only way I could possibly have done that well is that everyone else did very poorly and he bumped grades.

(too tired today to do the happy dance, but quite pleased with myself)

Trying to get back to regular postings still. I will try and post again before bedtime. After a gorgeous day on Saturday yesterday was horrible. Cold and rainy, but I had a swim in the afternoon anyway. I stayed up way too late last night (not really on purpose), and got a slow start to the day today. I wasn’t supposed to go walking this morning, but the neighbour called around 11:30, so off we went. She can’t go tomorrow and Wednesday I’m at the airport getting my mother, so it was a good idea. My meals are a little off today (on the low side), so I’ll have to be careful in the afternoon that I don’t go overboard. I’ve planned out two snacks so that should take care of it.

So, I’m off to work a little in the backyard and then have a swim. Tomorrow it’s supposed to rain so I’ll vacuum a little and do some shopping. The two great hunters (the cats) came inside because there’s a guy cutting a tree down… two yards over!

Food for yesterday:

Total: 1996 calories (27% fat, 34% protein, 39% carbs)

Breakfast: two fried eggs, sourdough bread, orange (384)
AM Snack: none (0)
Lunch: eye of round, lettuce, mustard, multi-grain wrap, apple (444)
PM Snack: hummus, flatbread (164)
Dinner: sirloin steak, corn, butter, salad w/dressing (728)
Evening Snack: protein shake, fruit salad (275)

Catch-up Post

So, after what feels like months of inactivity and definitely weeks of poor food choices, I think that I’m back on track. Looking back it’s really only been 4 weeks since I’ve posted things like weekly weigh-ins and such, but I know that I haven’t felt in control for longer. However, school is over until September, and there’s really no excuse for getting things back on track. I’ve definitely slid backwards a bit on the weight, but I’m going to wait until next Sunday to see exactly how much. I say that because I think I have some water weight to drop, and then we’ll see where I stand.

So the plan for the next little while is 2000 cals a day and 5 days worth of exercise a week. I’ve started walking with a neighbour (~2.5 miles Tu-Fri, which takes us about 40 mins). I’m not sure if I’ll switch over and start walking with my mother when she comes home on Wednesday. She’s a little slower, but if we go the path that I’m thinking I could perhaps jog a bit during part of it (ie. away from her, and back). Anyway, we’ll see how that goes. I want to add at least two days of lifting into the plan, but some of that may depend on if I find work during the summer or not. Getting the food back on track has been reasonably good these last few days (since Wed), so that’s really the first step.

I will start making daily posts (add my food later tonight), and looking forward to a good summer break!

I’m still here…

I (think) I’m done with exams, but I have something to do this afternoon. I’m planning on doing a catch-up post, but it’s likely going to end up being tomorrow.
