Today’s Totals - Jan 1st, 2009

I’ll have to remember to update the checklist tomorrow, but tonight I’m working on the laptop. So, I’ll do some copy and paste and hope I don’t miss anything. The desktop machine’s fan (the one on the motherboard) has developed a nasty vibration… but only periodically. I’m keeping an eye on it, and won’t run the machine if it fails. But I really don’t want to put a new fan on the board. If it was the main fan I’d likely just suck it up and buy a new one and swap it out. Over the many years (oops, decades I suppose now) that I’ve owned computers I’ve never changed that component. Of course, it’s only the last couple of computers that have even had fans on the boards.

So I turned off the machine, and it will likely be fine in the morning. If nothing else it gives me a break from the scanning. :)

So, overall not a bad day. I also put together my last cooking project (well, except for the marmalade) and tomorrow will divide the stewed beef into 10 double portions. Yes, I made 20 servings of stewed beef (with a few onions and mushrooms). It’s really a good thing that we have large pots and roasting pans. It makes things like today so much easier.

On tap for tomorrow is colouring my hair, and we have two of the neighbours coming over for a drink. That will be a challenge as (a) I’m not planning to drink, and (b) I’m not planning to eat either. :D The fact that they’re coming over tomorrow night means that I’ll likely feel that I need to make the family room look a little better than it does at the moment. Although they will only be in the living room….

Who am I kidding, I’ll probably clean up.

Thoughts on 2008

First, the trend chart for the past year:

2008

Everything looks good, except for the end of the year. It shows me that I have to really watch myself. This doesn’t surprise me, but somewhere along the way I really thought I was just ticking along, without a care in the world. Well, the end of the year showed me I was wrong.

Total loss: 92.8 pounds

This looks good until you remember that I was always averaging just over 2 pounds a week, so it should have ended somewhere about 11-12 pounds higher. Oh well, the past is the past.

So, I’m starting 2009 at 253.4 pounds. I’d love to think that I could end the year at 150, and it’s probably the goal I have in the back of my mind. However, what’s a more realistic goal for 2009?

1. Before the end of it, get under 175

Why that number, because at 174 I’d have a BMI under 30, which would be the first time as an adult that I’ll be simply overweight, not just obese. I know I was 180-something getting out of highschool (if not 200+), so it would be a big deal for me. Silly, isn’t it, to think that being classed as overweight would be a goal.

When I look at it overall, that’s 79.4 pounds in total, which translates to just a little over a pound and a half a week. Even with my bad Nov/Dec I still averaged over that for 2008. So I really do think it’s achievable. On that note, I have a resistance training session to do… :D

December wrap-up

Well, I weighed in this morning at 253.4, which is 104.8 pounds from where I started this time, and 153.6 from my top known weight. December was brutal, and I’m sure that the calorie levels are incorrect (ie. they were higher). It started with my ‘no plan/no count’ week, and just couldn’t get back on track well. I’m also sure that I picked a lot while baking the Christmas cookies. However, the numbers are what I logged. Probably the thing that saved me to most was the exercise. It wasn’t as high as planned, but much closer to being back on track. At least I’m only now just a little over 2 pounds higher than the lowest weight in December. It’s unfortunately though that it was December 3rd!

  • calories per day: 2565, hr monitor: 6600 cals total
  • strength training: 8h 35m, resistance training: 1h 40m
  • snow shoveling: 1h 45m, treadmill: 5h 10m
  • avg daily exercise: 33 mins (213 cals per day)
  • weight lost: 0.2 pounds

Now I need to think about goals for next month. I don’t set weight lost goals, as I feel I would be disappointed if I didn’t meet them. I try and set goals that will push me, but I can control if they are attainable. Although you can do certain things to help, you can’t force your body to lose weight on a schedule. So, on to the goals for next month.

  • Eat within plan every day (following OPT, so numbers will vary)
  • Drink water every day (4L min.)
  • Exercise (following OPT, so numbers and days will vary)

I’m probably going to do an ‘end of year’ review, so for the moment that’s all. :)
