Ha! Gotcha didn’t I? :P No, I am not talking about food… Okay, my experience with Radiant Recovery for my sugar addiction has been bumpy but worthwhile… I have doing the program for almost 9 months now and I have made HUGE and Fabulous progress! One disappointing thing has been my weight creep and my frustration with that aspect of the program. Now, they discourage talking about weight gain on the forum that I visit for support of the program, in fact they held one of my posts because it pertained to just that topic. Well, I have struggled a lot with what you would call “diet head” and I have made great strides in healing that mentality, I don’t weigh myself compulsively night and day anymore and I have made great steps toward peace with my body just as she is right this minute. However, the program originally made me a little “afraid” of my regular workouts…afraid that that was contributing to my Beta Endorphin levels spiking and setting me up for relapse… I worried and backed off…cut my time and intensity back and switched to more Yoga & Pilates…now don’t get me started on my beloved Yoga! It has done more good for my arms, abs, and strength than anything I have ever done! However, I have come to believe that my weight creep may still be tied into my RR program…the focus is more on protein and complex carbs. I believe that my calories were creeping on me too!! And that coupled with several other factors…meds..age…possible things like perimenopause…and the slow down of my cardio contributed to the problems that I have been having. So, I have resumed my cardio at pretty much my regular intensity and will see how things play out. If I start craving sweets and having lots of problem with “wobbling” (what I call it when I am straying from the program) I will go from there. One thing that I believe is absolutely necessary and non negotiable when I work out is the balance of meditation or restorative yoga poses to balance my energy… I think that that is possibly a factor in why they say that over exercising is “dangerous” for some sugar sensitives because they can become hooked on the high just like other BE (beta endorphing) raising substances and activities. If you raise your BE and don’t counter it with the soft release of dopamine (that you can get from meditation and relaxation) you will be left unbalanced and in trouble.
So there you have it! I just finished 40 mins plus 5 min cooldown on the treadmill this morning an I am getting ready to do my stretches and a little ab work… Yesterday was 20 mins elliptical/20 mins treadmill… Food has been solid and on program… I have also switched my morning coffee to green/mint tea (I put a bag of mint in as well because it blends so well with the green…licorice does too!) no sweetener… I never intended to cut my coffee but it just sort of happened…my body isn’t really wanting it right now…and I am listening to her! Maybe for the first time in my life…what a concept!
