Weigh-In, Week 20

WTF. I gained 2 lbs. I have NEVER gained more than 0.8 in a week, and I wrote that off as salt bloat. 2 lbs?! I’m back up to 173. I feel like getting into the 160s is an impossible task. I’ve been yo-yoing between 173 and 171 for the past 7 weeks. I feel like I’ve been wasting time, but I know that I need to be cooking my own food to be successful. What can I do apart from eating at subway every night? I do fine with breakfast and lunch, but I can’t control dinner. It’s basically impossiblet to know what’s going into your food when you eat in a restaurant. I feel helpless. No matter how specific I am with my instructions for preparation, it seems that I can’t ever get exactly what I want. I am SO disappointed. ![]()

Where do you go for dinner that you can’t control it? Do they have a “nutritional information” page to their website? Even fast food restaurants have that. Don’t order any meat covered in any sauce. Get salads with the dressing on the side. Never consume more than 2 tablespoons of dressing. Dip your fork tines into the salad dressing and THEN into the salad-you get less that way, but can still taste it. Ask them to hold any french fries. Either eat salad instead, or ask for steam veggies or fresh fruit. Don’t eat the bread or rolls, or if you do, don’t lather on a bunch of butter. It’s really easy to do this, if you just take the time to do your research and hold your ground with the waitress. I went out to lunch last Friday, and I told the waitress, “Do you remember When Harry Met Sally? I’m going to order like Sally!” Which made her laugh, put the situation at easy, and made her say “Bring it!” So I told her I wanted a specific chicken sandwich they had, but without the bun, lettuce, tomatoe, mayo, or pickles. And I didn’t want the french fries, but I wanted 2, just TWO, onion rings instead. After I was done, she laughed and said “That’s it? That’s all? That’s no problem at all!” See, it’s all in your approach.
Hi Sunny, thanks for your advice. I definitely do all of those things when I go out to eat. Unfortunately in my current situation, I am living in a hotel for the entire summer and have to eat at a cafeteria style buffet every night (which means no special orders). There is no nutritional info and God knows what goes into everything. i have been eating big salads and trying to keep portions small, but I’m starving!! I work long hours in a fairly demanding job, and all I want to do when I come home is sit down to a nice dinner.
I also don’t currently have a fridge (apart from the one I have at work where I keep all my breakfast and lunch stuff), so that’s been a challenge when it comes to healthy snacking. The most frustrating thing is that I had my plan figured out to a T before I moved, and now my progress has majorly stalled.
