I have been pretty bummed because while other 3FC members seem to be losing very well, I have only lost 3-4 lbs for almost 5 weeks! I know part of it is gaining muscle, water retention, b/p, etc. but it is very discouraging. However, yesterday I was at the store getting ground beef for my doggie(she has lymphoma and needs the extra protein) and it came in 3 lb packages. As I looked at it, I realized that was what was gone from me. 3 lbs is still better than no better!
So yesterday I had another b/p session :(, 3rd one since this whole weight loss program began. Things have been tough with my mother, but that’s no excuse. Whenever I do a b/p, I enter 1/3rd of what I’ve eaten because that is how many calories one typically retains. I still managed to be around 1500 because I felt so sick after that I couldn’t eat dinner. Therapy is not an option right now because I leave for abroad inĀ a week(ACK!) and due to limited food budget, homestays, bulimia is not an option.
For accountability’s sake, here is what I have eaten so far today:
B: 1 egg scrambled with 1/2 slice soy cheese, 2 pieces turkey bacon, 8 oz soy milk(273 cals)

Well, the past week hasn’t exactly been the best week for my weight loss. I had a few b/p episodes which makes me upset and makes me feel like a failure for only being able to adhere to this weight loss plan for a few weeks without screwing it up. And then, of course, my mom(who has been controlling me for the past 4 weeks, which is a major trigger for me) has been sending me out for junk food and making me take her to Chinese. I can’t exactly say no because I’m only 19 and I live with my parents still.
At least I made it to the gym. And the scale only showed a 1 lb gain, but it was during TOM so who knows. I am trying out this vinegar cleanse thing that Megan Fox(actress from Transformers) does to help with sodium retention and to detox organs. It’s pretty nasty, but I hope it works.

Haven’t written here in a long time. Not sure anybody reads this. Oh well.
I have decided to change my weight loss goal from 140 to 175. The main factor for this was that I am deciding to focus on body fat and waist-height ratio rather than BMI(which I find to be somewhat faulty). Once I reach 175, we’ll see how it goes from there! Maybe I’ll lose more, maybe I won’t. Who knows?
Anyways, just a brief little outline of what I had to eat today:
B: Two whole-wheat waffles each with a tbsp of fat free cream cheese and blueberries
L: Thai shrimp salad w/.5 cup pad Thai
S: Two Quaker white cheddar rice cakes w/one laughing cow and one ginger crisp
D: 1/2 cup chicken jambalaya, salad w/ 1 tbsp Newman’s Own Lighten Up Ginger and Sesame Dressing, bread
S2: Another rice cake with 1/2 tbsp bean dip
Total cals: 1538. I also did 30 min of interval workout on the elliptical and 30 min biking at resistance level 5

The last couple days have been pretty hectic, but I managed to do great with my diet and exercise. Tuesday had me just chilling at home by myself, but I managed to stay within my calorie, fat and sodium limit for the day( I even managed a couple mini slices of goat cheese and basil pizza from Trader Joe’s, for 250 cals!). Wednesday had me back up in Portland to see my mom in the hospital and of course my YiaYia(Greek for grandma) wanted to go to lunch. Where did she want to eat? California Pizza Kitchen. I think I did pretty well though, I ordered a Thai crunch salad and requested that no fried wontons or noodles be on the salad, in addition to ordering the peanut dressing on the side and opting for a cilantro-lim vinaigrette on the salad. YiaYia really wanted to shove some dessert down my throat but I resisted!
I have also made it to the gym 3 days this week, doing an hour of cardio and around 15 minutes of strength training and abs. Yesterday, the elliptical KICKED MY BUTT. I was dying up on that machine, despite the fact that I often do the weight loss program! My abs are super-sore today from Tuesday and today is another ab day. My goal is around 45-60 min cardio, but since my lovely little gym will be closed on Saturday, it will be just a walk, so I’m trying to squeeze some extra time in during the week.
Speaking of Saturday, the 4th will be a test of will for sure! I’m going to a BBQ/sleepover party and I’m worried that being around everyone else eating bad food will make me slip off the bandwagon. But since I allow myself one small unhealthy treat a week, I will just pick one thing at the party. And of course, my mom wants me to bake her a birthday cake. Being around cake is bad, but baking it! So many tests coming up. And I will NOT fail. Food will NOT win. Food lasts a mere 10 seconds, but being healthy will give me another 5-10 years! Sorry my posts are so long, but I don’t know how many people actually read this. It’s nice to have a place where I can go that’s accountable.

For my first “official” day of trying to lose weight(since I sprained my ankle, I have been doing it unofficially until I could exercise), I think I did pretty well! I only went 6 calories over my daily goal of 1517 for losing 2 lbs a week, although I might modify that goal a little bit since I can exercise now! I had a nice healthy breakfast of a half a slice of whole wheat sourdough toast from Trader Joe’s(seriously, it’s awesome!), Morningstar Farms veggie sausage patty, and an egg cooked in just a tiny bit of olive oil. Lunch was kinda difficult since my dad and sister wanted toe at California Pizza Kitchen, but I ordered a Moroccan chicken salad and ate a third of it. My dad wanted to have some, so we got the full size instead of half size. It had LOTS of veggies in it, like beets, squash, carrots, edamame, dates, some egg, and a nice vinaigarette. My calorie counting website didn’t have it on their site yet(sucky!), so I added up all the individual ingredients separately, which took a long time and I think I overestimated a little bit, but I figure it’s better to overestimate and budget my cals around that than eat too many. For dinner, I had a Lean Cuisine and some edamame. And after my workout, a yummy slice of watermelon! All in all, a pretty successful first day, despite some concerns about the salad. Even if my estimations are wrong, at the very least I got a ton of nutrients from the veggies!
My exercise was pretty good too. I did an hour of cardio, with 15 min biking, 30 min elliptical, and 15 more min biking. I then did some upper arm weights followed by squats and lunges. Pretty tiring, but I felt very satisfied with myself.
P.S. This blog isn’t going to be all about what I eat and exercise, I just thought it would be fun to post my first day!

So I thought it would great to keep a list of non-food rewards for each 10 pounds lost, as a means to keep myself motivated. New clothing items will be ommitted because I don’t know how my shape will be changing as I lose weight, but accessories are fair game ;).
10 lbs- Pedicure!
20 lbs- New necklace or bracelet
30 lbs- French facial
40 lbs- Buy a movie
50 lbs- subscription to a guilty pleasure magazine…maybe People or Cosmopolitan
60 lbs- some lovely French cosmetics/lotion
70 lbs- Stretch mark cream
80 lbs- Pierced ears
90 lbs- new earrings!(to go with the pierced ears lol)
100 lbs- GOAL. Bikini!

After trying and failing for 11 years( trying to lose weight since I was EIGHT YEARS OLD, which I think is very sad to try at such a young age), I am ready to do it again! Since tomorrow is when the doctor says I can start working out after a bad ankle sprain, I am making June 29th, 2009 the official beginning of my weight loss journey and my new life. I have been watching what I eat for awhile and been doing pretty well, minus a few slipups while on vacation. Now that I can workout, I am so excited to get going. And as soon as my ankle heals fully, I am going to start running on the C25K program. Anyone else who is beginning, in the middle of, or already finished their journey would be amazing for inspiration, tips, or just general chit-chat!
SO EXCITED
