Finalized my Honolulu Choo Choo Plan yesterday afternoon/evening and today is the first day on the formal plan.  We’re off to a really good start.  DH was going to the store yesterday afternoon and he said, “I’m going to pick up cigarettes.  Do you need any?” and I said, “Why don’t we just quit?  You know we’ve got to.  It’s ridiculous to throw money away like that.”  And he kind of looked a little hesitant so I jumped right in, “You know we can do it.  Let’s just be like the Nike slogan…Just Do It!” and he surprised me by saying, “I’ll think about it.  I guess it’s as good a time as any.”

So, right then, with no advance planning/formal plan/nicorette/Chantix/patches we just finished the pack and gave em up.  DS came in later on and I threw him outside, “Your Daddy and I have quit.  No more cigarettes in the house.  Absolutely none.  I don’t want to see them, I don’t want to smell them.  Take it outside!”

We quit around 4:00 in the afternoon and it was a couple of hours before the loss began to sink in.  DH had to go pick up Andrew and I tried to encourage him before he left.  “Don’t cave.  Don’t buy any cigarettes.  I know you can do it!  No dip, either.  That stuff is totally gross!”  He didn’t buy any and I felt like a cheerleader!  Believe me, this is not something my husband does.  I’m so proud of him!  He went to bed at 8:00 and is still asleep (14 hours later) but if that’s what he needs to do to deal with it, he can sleep all day for all I care.

I started feeling a little fidgety and I remembered how I dealt with it last time.  I chewed on a straw.  I got a straw out of the cupboard and went out to the spa.  I sat out there for a while, chewing on my straw, came in and cleaned up from dinner and then went to bed at 10:00.

I weighed myself this morning and came in at 203.5.  Wow!  Posting and weighing has already given me 2 points!

Today’s calories:

Lunch – Frozen entree (300) calories

Dinner – 3 bowls vegetable beef soup (750) calories, slice angel food cake (100) cereal bar (100) Total = 1,250

9:30 Update: Strange day.  We had a vicious storm yesterday afternoon.  It blew up very quickly, heavy winds and drenching rain and lasted about 20 minutes.  A tree branch broke and fell in the front yard of our neighbor’s house three doors down and brought down a power line.  I didn’t think much of it.

Went out to get a haircut this morning and I was shocked.  There are huge trees down and they say 119,000 homes are without electricity.  I had to keep detouring to get to the hair salon because of downed power lines and trees blocking the road.  Everywhere I went, I saw signs in the front windows of stores “Closed!  No Power!”  My hair salon was open and I got my hair cut and then went to the grocery.  As I was checking out, a woman was talking to the cashier and said she’d just heard that schools would be closed tomorrow.

Sure enough…our first day of school is going to be moved to our last day of school.  48 schools are without power.  Strange.

I did my laps today and it wasn’t much fun.  The pool is down to 66 degrees and that’s pretty chilly.  Especially when it’s cool and overcast.  Still, I did pretty good today.  Ate well, exercised, didn’t smoke and didn’t allow any smoking in the house.  Here’s my results for today:  I earned 21 points.  I need 110 points each week so I’m doing pretty good for the first day.  Actually making it through the day without smoking feels pretty good!

Good for you! A friend of mine who quit told me that she was told each craving only lasted for three minutes. If she could get through that three minutes, then she could deal with the next craving. She said that pretty soon the cravings got further and further apart.

Okay Patty! I’m here. Survived Laughlin and came home 450 UNDER budget. Won enough $ the first night to gamble the rest of the weekend. Smoked like a train. Tonight is it for me. SOOOOOO PROUD OF YOU AND HUBBY! Stick with it girl. I have a reluctant to quit husband just inside the house. I hope he does as well. My son (22) is already reminding me that my last day is today. I’m ready. Also not looking forward to the fidgets, but gearing up to meet them head on. No cheating. No caving. No excuses. Hawaii here you come! New camera here I come! Thanks for checking on me. Heading back to your post to check out your super fantastic points plan. May borrow it!

Hi! I haven’t been on here for a while but it seems like a lot has been going on. WTG on the smoking! But what a bummer about the storm and losing the school day. It seems like you guys go through that a lot for a school outside of the midwest!
