Seems like they could find a better name for it.  I mean, we’re supposed to have a day off.  They could call it Labor Day NOT!  or Lack of Labor Day. Either way, I don’t plan on doing a whole lot of labor today.

Continued to work on organizing the bedroom yesterday.  It’s amazing how long it takes when you’re pulling all these boxes of stuff out and sorting it.  I found a necklace and watch I’d been looking for.  DH had put them in his underwear drawer.  Took all the drawers out of the dresser and found a blouse that had fallen behind one of the drawers.  In one of the boxes DH put on the very top shelf of the closet I found 3 of my belts, 2 paperbacks, two pair of scissors, a bottle of nail polish, three pair of socks, one of DH’s sweatshirts, a pair of pliers, 3 rolls of scotch tape and a roll of masking tape, and a glue gun.  What do all these things have in common?  They were probably lying around the house one day when DH cleaned it and he grabbed them all up, threw them in a box, stashed it on the top shelf and then waited for me to thank him for straightening the house.  Either that, or they were lying around and the phone rang and somebody said they’d be right over so he did the quick “tidy up” thing.

The scales are showing 169 this morning.  I’ve been hanging around with this guy for a long time.  Wish he’d give it up and let 167 or 168 spend some time with me.  At this rate, I’ll never make it to 150 by Christmas.  Don’t know what else I can do.  I’m watching the calories and exercising.  I know I could do better if I didn’t have to deal with work but I do.  It consumes so much of my time I’m not able to plan meals and exercise as much as I’d like.  Wednesday, for example, I have to give a “Meet and Greet” for the ROTC Booster Club.  I was elected treasurer but Sarge and the Major are freaking out because none of the other officers are stepping up to the plate.  We’ve had a couple of meetings and they couldn’t make it.  Some of the summer activities were cancelled because they didn’t have the support of the parents.  ROTC had seven seniors whose parents were very active but the guys all graduated last year and now the booster club is empty.  My idea was to have a “Meet and Greet” dinner to get parents in and then pitch the club and try to get some help.  My poor DS (chef) agreed to make baked ziti, garlic bread, salad, and sheet cake for the dinner which we estimated to be about 50 people.  Now it looks like it’s going to be closer to 100.  So, I’ll be tied up with that after work on Wednesday and Thursday is our open house so we’re all expected to be back at school from 5:00 to 8:00 for that.  I can do water aerobics tomorrow but Wednesday and Thursday are a wash as far as exercise goes.

I’m not happy about my weight.  I just added the last two weeks to my data and graphed it and I’m really not showing a lot of movement the last three weeks or so.  Of course, that’s about when we started back to work. (sigh)

9:00 a.m. - Okay, I’ve been sitting here staring at this graph for a few minutes and it’s starting to look like a challenge.  I’ve decided this week will be a perfect week.  Every day I’ll find a way to get my exercise in and I’m going to stay around 1,000 calories each day.  In fact, I was supposed to clean the pool today so I thought I’d jog in the pool after I finished for exercise.  Now I’m determined to go upstairs and do the treadmill AND jog in the pool.  Watch our chicklets!  This week is really going to shake things up!

11:15 - Okay!  I kicked ass on that treadmill!  Managed to wring 870 calories out of it and 5.2 miles.  I spent a lot longer at the higher inclines.  Plastered bandaids all over my heels before I put on my trusty old Reeboks because they gave me blisters the last couple of times I wore them.  I can’t help wondering what the corellelation is between the stride of someone who’s tiptoeing to make it to 5′2″ and someone who’s 5.10 or so.  I just can not get the speed above 3.6 without jogging.  Did most of the workout at 3.4 and that pushes me pretty hard.

So that’s step one in perfect day number one of perfect week number one.

5:45 - I’m tired!  I worked in the garden quite a bit today.  Planted a bunch of perennials and did some weeding and mulching.  I vacuumed the pool and then did laps for 45 minutes.  Not jogging, mind you, but laps.  Don’t know how long it’s been since I did that but it wore me out!  Alternated the crawl, side stroke, breast stroke, and back stroke.  The breast stroke damn near did me in.  My arms are really wussy these days.  The pool was really nice.  It got too cold for a while and we threw the solar cover on it a couple of weeks ago.  Took it off today and the water was 86 degrees.  Perfect!  These 90 degree days the last couple of weeks have really warmed it up.

I’ve still got to fertilize all the flowers and do a couple loads of laundry but right now, I’m just going to sit here a couple of minutes and munch on edamame beans.

8:15 - Well, Okay!  I did a perfect day!  Got all the plants fertilized (I need to stop doing that and let them go dormant but a lot of them are annuals anyway) and got the laundry done.  Ate two veggies burgers for dinner and now I can relax.  Still need to find a couple hundred calories but I don’t think that’s going to be a problem.  I can always find something to eat! :-)  Now I’m freezing and my nails are dirty and my legs are hairy.  Sounds like a nice relaxing soak is in order!

Do you think we could convince our insurance companies to pay our salaries for a while so we can focus on being healthy? I know if I could be off for about a year I could get to where I want to be!! BTW, I think the meet-and-greet is a great idea. Maybe this temporary break in your schedule will be enough to shake up your body and get those scales moving again. Just keep making healthy choices and you WILL get there. You are an inspiration to so many of us, I know I look forward to reading your posts every day. Enjoy the day off.

Great job ms. pat - while some of us are merging with the microfiber suede of our couches - YOU are kicking ass and taking names.

Geez - makes me glad that common sense prevails in the end after all.

The best to you on the Challenge. I’ve got a feeling that you’re gonna cause a shake up on that scale….

I’m going to be Devil’s Advocate here…could you be consuming too few calories at 1000? Most things that I read say to keep calories at 1200 at the minimum. Just some info, I would hate to see you bust your ass on the treadmill and then have your body think you’re starving and hang onto every pound.

Yeah, I know, Brandie. I struggle with this. I have a really slow metabolism and I gain weight really easy. I can’t ever seem to lose until I drop below 1,200 calories a day and work my butt off with exercise. I’m only dropping down this low for a week so it ought to be okay. Guess we’ll see. Thanks for the concern!

Good job. You so inspire me. I hope that you will have a good night an relax a bit in your hot tub, veg out.

good lord, patty! I’m exhausted from standing around making roses out of sugar all day! I can’t ever manage to do more than a mile on the treadmill. I guess I just haven’t built up the way you have. Anything higher than 3mph I tend to start jogging. I’m 5′10! Like I said, maybe i’m just not used to it.

patty says 1st September @ 19:56

Oh! Well that makes me feel a little better, Leighish! My treadmill has 6 computerized routines built into it and the slowest one is 4.0 mph and it’s called the beginner’s circuit. Makes me feel like a wuss! One reason I push it so hard is because I feel like I need to really work my ankle to keep it limber.

I’m exhausted just reading your post, you Dynamo, you!
Ha ~ funny about your DH’s stashes! Maybe you could put a collect-all basket somewhere local. There’s those ones you can sit on your stairs that have the “stair shape”. Your kitty would enjoy it, too.
As your ROTC dinner has expanded, dare I suggest Stoffers lasagna? They make those honkin’ big foil pans; just jazz ‘em up with extra mozz & parm cheese on the top, and smear some sauce on your apron.
That is so terrific you are taking that on for the kiddos.

you’ve inspired me to start planting, patty!
