Sunny Sunday

Good Morning little chicklets!  Weighing in at 179.5 this morning (but that’s with nail polish so it might be lower).

On the “to do” list for today:

  1. Meet Pam at the gym at 10:00 for water aerobics.
  2. Get some more plants in the ground.
  3. Straighten up the RV (air it out, make the beds, check the linens, vacuum, etc.)
  4. Finish up the revised vacation plans.
  5. Nag DH and DS to get the window unit air conditioner set up upstairs.

Gotta take a break now and see what bargains I can find in the Sunday circulars.

12:45 - Home from the gym.  DH has been WORKING while I was gone!  Dug up and threw out tons of stuff in the front flower bed (much of it perennials, but I don’t care).  It gives me a big area to start planting!

7:30 - OMG, I got so HOT!  Working in the garden was murder!  I used to have these wonderful big flower beds that I worked peatmoss and top soil into every couple of years and the soil was perfect.  I haven’t done that for at least 7 or 8 years to the flower bed out front and it was like concrete!  I really need to get a rotor tiller and work the entire bed up and recondition it but that’s not going to happen with us leaving on vacation in about a week and a half.  The best I could do was chip away at the concrete with a shovel and try to get a hole big enough to throw a little peat moss into before threw in an innocent, unsuspecting little plant.  These big old maple trees are murder on the soil.  They send out all these shallow surface roots and drain every drop of moisture from the soil unless I keep a sprinkler on it pretty often.  Poor DH.  He was hoping I would work tomorrow and Tuesday for some extra income and I told him he had two choices…work his butt off today and help me get these plants in or I could work on it myself for the next three days.  He worked like a dog digging and planting today.  I was drenched in sweat and he was working harder than I was.  We barely made a dent in all the plants that needed to go in but, a deal is a deal, and I’m going to go ahead and work the next two days.

Most people think teachers are off all summer but it rarely works out that way.  We don’t get paid but we do a lot of work during those two months.  Last week, I attended a seminar for 20 hours and didn’t get paid.  I have an opportunity to work Monday and Tuesday of this week but will only get paid less than half my usual pay.  Even so, it’s play money that we can use on vacation so I’ll go ahead and work.  Teachers are in demand quite a bit in the summer.  I used to grab everything I could get but I’ve learned that the summer is going to fly by so I like to enjoy as much time off as I can get.

I haven’t eaten nearly enough today.  Only around 500 calories.  I need to try to eat something else but I’m really not hungry.

I might be one step ahead of you. Jason got up yesterday and put the window unit in the dining room. Remeber now, I don’t have central air. Last summer. He never did put it up for me. I thought I would melt last year. But this year he is living here and what cha know! He put it up! Made his poor momma go without last year but now he had a small taste of the heat. Anyway he came home from work last night and goes “ahhh, It feels good in here!”

How do you like water arobics?
You must be getting excited with your vacation coming up. When my Hubby retires we want to buy a r.v and travel for a year. ahhhhhh I can dream can’t I? (smile)
have a great Sunday.
By the way you are right, I need to let go to some degree. He threw a fit but it all worked out. Thanks

I think the water aerobics are okay. I’m never quite sure how much of a workout I get. I’ve got this mindset that if I’m not sweaty and breathing hard, I’m not working hard enough.

Hi Pat! You know, before I had our son, I too thought teachers had an easy job. As my son progressed through the school years and had after school activities going on (”Odyssey of the Mind” for the past three years), we would be at the school until 5-6 in the evening and there were ALWAYS teachers around, working on stuff. I have such respect for teachers!

I’m with ya on the good soil thingie. My husband has become quite the Dirt Guy. He has a biggish tractor with a bucket AND a digger, and is always improving the dirt in our gardens. I silently moan as its going on because HE’S on the tractor and I’m the rube holding the shovel, but ooooh that dirt! It’s so easy to weed and plant in!

Think of all the extra exercise you got as a bonus today!

I LOVE gardening! It’s good for the bod, as well as the soul. Wish I were close enough to nab some of your throw-away perennials! Have a great week coming up!
