Happy Birthday Safiya!
Posted on November 4th, 2009 by paperskin
It’s Safi’s second birthday today! We’ve already started the damage at breakfast this morning.. I took her out for pancakes! I’m thinking of getting Safi a cat for her birthday. I thought it was a little bit far fetched when I first thought of it, but then I talked to my husband and he liked the idea.
So I’m on the hunt for a cute little cat. Do any of you have cats? Any advice for a first time cat buyer?
This mornings weight - 172.8 lbs
Exercise - WATP 2 miles
I dread tomorrow’s weigh in.

Happy birthday, Safi! If you have seen my pet pictures on facebook then you know I love cats!!!
I prefer male cats..they tend to be less moody and more affectionate than females. We adopted ours from a shelter that neutered him the day before he came home with us, which helps a ton with marking territory, etc. Once you get the kitty, take him or her to a vet to get checked out and up to date on shots. Honestly other than that they are pretty low maintenance.
Oh I’m so excited for you!!!! YAY! Kitties!
I always read up on a pet before I get one- pets can cost a lot of money and if you aren’t prepared for vet bills and unexpected costs from that then I always advise against a pet (not saying you wouldn’t take your pet to the vet if it needed it but some people don’t realize the cost associated with a pet.).
Do some research and see if certain types of cats are better than others for younger kids as well.
When I volunteered in high school at pet shelters I can’t tell you how many people would drop off pets they had bought on a whim. It’s really heartbreaking
I googled first time cat owner and a lot of good tips came up
