I hate Fat Stores
I hate them. Everything about them. They suck!
So yesterday I went shopping. Tomorrow is Yumna’s birthday party with her friends, and their Moms. Their skinny, beautiful, gorgeous, and did I mention skinny Moms. So I was thinking, maybe a new shirt to show off my new body. (That was funny).. Seriously the sad part is that nobody except my husband really notices the difference in my weight because I gained the weight so fast in the last few months.
Anyway, back to the shirt.. so I went to Addition Elle. A store that I can’t stand going into. I have so few clothes because it takes so much out of me to go into this store. This is the best of the worst though.. like Reitman’s has plus clothes but they have been recycling the same inventory for the last 5 years, and Laura’s is for 60 year old women. Penningtons is just plain ugly.. and so all that is left is Addition Elle.. and not like the whole store, they have this small line of younger looking clothes called MXM. They aren’t that bad, but they are so freaking expensive, and you would be lucky to find your size.
So yesterday in desperation I went. I picked out a shirt that I liked.. it was a little tight. Very slightly.. they didn’t have the 2X in that colour, so I tried in another colour.. it was huge. What’s a girl to do. So I bought the slightly small one and figure I can wear my SPANX type underwear underneath. Okay, now I have to look to buy a second one if I want the sale price. I was in there for close to half an hour trying on shirts to find the second one. I don’t think either of them would work for the party on Saturday but I sure as hell wasn’t coming home with nothing. My husband would be pissed off. He hates that I never buy clothes and then complain for ages about how I have nothing to wear.
Then I went to the GAP to find out how far away I was from the real stores. I tried on three different shirts, all XL, and guess what they were only a smidge tight.. like I think by the time I lose 15 more pounds I might be moving into the real stores. You have no idea how exciting this is for me. Like I was almost jumping up and down in the fitting room.
Okay back to the Fat Stores. I hate them. And so these next 15 pounds will be dedicated to losing them for life. I hate them. I hate them. I hate them.
I hate:
- Their expensive prices for lousy clothes.
- The ugliest prints, designs, colours they think fat people should wear.
- Their complete insensitivity to the people they serve. Seriously, why does 1X fit differently depending on the shirt. I have a 3X shirt! I am no where close to 3X in any of their other clothes, but this one particular shirt they made so small. Don’t they think that will demoralize a person doing that?
- They only offer the freaking sale price if you buy 2 or more of the same lousy piece of crap.
- They only have 1 shirt in each size. Which makes it impossible to shop since most people are either 1X or 2X if they go there, and so those sizes are usually gone. Also makes the previous point of buying more than one an impossibility. It’s hard enough to buy one, never mind two.

Too funny! Everything you wrote is *so true*!
I hate them, too. Oh, so much. Can’t wait to be able to shop in regular-sized stores!
I agree. Either the styles are so ridiculous NO woman of a larger size would wear them or they are granny stuff. Nothing in between.
Totally! This sounds like Lane Bryant here. $50 for a shirt? Am I really so fat that it takes $50 worth of fabric to make a shirt for me? Most of them look like they were made for old ladies in Florida. Grr…. but at least you found some shirts!
*hugz*
I know how you feel!
Try Kohls’ and Mervyns- I always find nice clothes there for good prices
i think i just fell in love with you.
the crappiest fabrics. the worst cuts. and you’re right so expensive!
and my favorite way to tell you’re in the fat chicks store? the sparkles.
yeah, i’m overweight. so dress me in sparkles and sequins. thanks.
it’s inspiring. or it is now. or it will be. or something.
Beerab, we don’t have either of those stores here in Canada. Sadly, the choices are pretty limited.
