You motivate me to want to try spin classes!!! I always go by there at the gym and see them pedaling their butts off, but I've never been brave enough to go and try it!!!

As for you wanting more girlfriends, I absolutely understand. My fiance' and I will be moving back to his home state of Tennessee here in the U.S. after this school year ends (in May '09) and I'm nervous about missing my family and my friends. I know that's where we will be living long term, though, and I've lived there for four years before, so I love it there. I just know how it is not to have the friends and family that you grow used to having. My thoughts are with you!! You are doing SO good...your exercise stamina is amazing-keep up the great work!!! :)

I use normal cycling shorts/tights. I know about the one's that you are talking about though. There are many people in my classes, even the instructors, who don't wear special shorts or use padding for their seats and they manage fine.
To be honest, it does hurt. I hurt allot when I started the classes but the instructor showed me how to sit properly on the seats. The hurt lasted for about max 3 classes and then it went away.
Most gyms rate their spin classes to let you know the intensity of the workout. I would suggest you chat to them and find out which one's are their beginner classes. They usually last 45 min incl. 5 min stretch at the end. Remember to pace yourself during the classes using the resistance knob. You will find that the resistance levels become much easier with each class you take. Try get to the class a little early, and chat to the instructor to get tips about setting up your bike.
Go on, try a class! You might find it really enjoyable and while you are spinning, know that you are burning off serious calories! (On average 450 cals in 45 min).
