About

My name is Lisa, I’m 24 a single mother of a toddler and I’m an overeater. Overeating has become so natural to the point that one serving looks so tiny.  I currently weigh 399 pounds down from 446.8, but I have a long way to go.  I hope to inspire people and receive inspiration to help me to keep going when I’m feeling down.  I have been on the journey what seems like forever but I know I’ll finally lose this weight and be healthier.

When I gave birth to my daughter the doctor told me that by the time she was 10 I would be dead.  Now this could be an exaggeration on her part to get me to finally do something about my weight but I did know if I didn’t do something about my weight I would die before she was an adult.  My mother died when I was 18, right before I went off to college.  It seems like everything in life has been 3 times harder because I don’t have her guidance and I don’t want my daughter to go through that.

So now my daughter is three and I have seven years (if you believe what the doc said) to change my life before I die.  The first three years I tried different things believing I was on the right path.  But what has been working for me is making smart choices and counting calories and my sodium intake.  I never believed that I would count calories.  I always tried diets that said you didn’t have to count calories because I always believed that counting was tedious and was going to be a pain.  There are so many websites online that help you track your calories, sodium, etc.  I belong to livestrong.com and they have made the process so easy, no more excuses!  I believe the most important thing I have done is to take a proactive role in losing weight instead of trying to follow diets that tell me what to eat I decide for myself what is good what I should eat and what I should limit if it isn’t the healthiest thing in the world.  I’ve been trying new things and most important is I’ve been watching my portion sizes (first I had to find out what a portion was of food), and if I’m still hungry I eat another portion of vegetables, not meat!  I am actually happy and I feel better than I have in a long time.  Who knew losing weight and exercising would be so invigorating.

I think that learning about nutrition of our foods is essential for long term success. The tales of not needing to count calories in my view are written by thin people.

Today I don’t count calories (or in my case, carb grams) on a daily basis, but I counted calories for YEARS and so I intuitively know the approximate counts of EVERYTHING. And knowing that deep inside is priceless, because I know what I’m doing, even when I’m off plan, I can’t fool myself by thinking it’s nothing, and when I get back on track I now can do it and make it seem like it’s without counting.

Good job for you on keeping up w livestrong!

I came across your blog while searching for coupons. Lisa your a very pretty woman and its neat that you are putting your mind to losing weight. I will 45 in 7 days. I have two daughters and I’m 183 lbs as of 2 weeks ago and I eat terrible. I think about my weight evry hour of the day. The double chin makes me feel awful! And last week for the first time I was told I have high cholesterol. Enough is enough. Do you have any encouraging words for me how to get started?

Keeep up the good work…..can’t wait to hear rom you….Pam in Arizona!

The most important thing you can do is stop thinking about your weight and make the right choices so you can start moving towards your goal. It would be too overwhelming for me to constantly criticize myself and my weight. The past is in the past you have to look to the future. Throw out all the junk food, only buy healthy food especially fruits and veggies, and start moving your body!
