I’ve been married for 8 years now to my wonderful husband, Joe. We have 4 children ages: 19, 4, 2, and 7 months.
I had never had a huge problem with gaining weight, I would yo-yo with 10 lbs but mostly always go back to my ideal weight. 2001, a couple months after I got married I miscarried our first child, at 9 weeks. I was devistated, I thought I had something to lose my child. I pretty much went into depression. It rocked all that I’d ever believed in as a Christian. I blamed God. During this time I ate and didn’t watch what I was eating, all the while thinking “It doesn’t matter I can lose it.” Well 30 lbs later, I realized I really did a number on myself. So I became more depressed. A year after that 2003, I became pregnant with our first son. I went from 160 to 209 by the end of the pregnancy. I sat there in tears after my prenatal appointment because I’d never been that heavy in my life. After having my son I waited 6 months to lose the weight. I lost it all and was back to 160. Since then I’ve had 2 more children.
May of 2009, I had a life changing experience. A friend came to visit, he took pictures of us and put them up on his Facebook. When he was taking the pictures I thought I looked fine, I knew I had gained weight but surely it didn’t look that bad. Well when I saw the pictures on FB is was horrified. I had no clue I was that big. For two weeks I tried to lose weight but only found myself gaining 4 more pounds. My mom and sister came to visit not long after our friend left. My mom offered to buy me clothes. I felt sick seeing the size I was now fitting into. I refused her offer.
May 15, 2009 I was watching Discovery Health and a show called “I lost it” came on. It was stories of people who’ve lost 50+ pounds. It finally hit me “If they could do this, so could I.” As I was watching it I started exercising. And I started a calorie counting diet as well. Using “Lose it” on my iphone.
June 13,2009 I stopped doing my taeBo and and other cardio aerobics and started C25K. It has always been my goal to be able to run for a long period of time. I knew I could walk 3 miles in 45 minutes but I wanted a challenge or to be able to run that length instead. I also realized that reducing my calorie intake to lose 2 lbs a week, was actually causing my body to go into starvation mode. A few girls from 3fatchicks, told me to raise my intake so as to lose weight.
June 15, 2009 We went on a vacation to Colorado. I was nervous thinking I would screw up my diet. But in actuality I found Calorieking.com which helped me know where and what to eat so that I didn’t go over my calories. And I started zig-zagging my calories day by day to confuse my body.
June 28,2009 We were back from our trip and I decided to weigh in and check my measurements. I lost 5.7 lbs and 4.5 inches.
So since May 15, 2009 I’ve lost a total of 12.2 lbs. Which puts me at 166…….6 lbs from 160!!! Since my great weight gain I’ve never fallen below 160. To go below that number will truly be a victory for me.
