Whitters Gettin’ Healthy

Not going to screw this up

Not Dead

So I’m not dead, but I feel sort of like I am. Life has really  been kicking my ass these past few weeks and at times I’ve been about ready to give up.

I’m back on my meds, and for a while there they were making me pretty sick, but that has finally settled down. Now I’m just trying to deal with the stress that is my last month of college. Graduation is so close, but the closer it gets, the more stressed out I am.

I’m pretty banged up from falling off the wagon almost every other day, but today I’m climbing back on and hopefully STAYING there.

I bought myself a little motivation trinket.. A necklace which I absolutely adore from Etsy. The teal/turquois is for PCOS awareness, and the girl who makes this jewelery uses some of the proceeds to donate towards PCOS research.

Day 17 - Ugh

Couldn’t post until now. Just got back from the hospital… My gram went into congestive heart failure again and we had to take her in tonight. They’re admitting her, so my mom sent me home while she stayed.

I was all prepared to talk about my good day today, getting to go out with my aunt, having a nice dinner, not getting sick from the Metformin, etc.. But now I guess I don’t really feel much like it.

Day 16 - Happy Days

Went to the doctor today and thankfully she has decided to put me back on Metformin for my PCOS. I was nearly positive when we got there that she wouldn’t be doing that, so I’m extremely happy now. I start it tomorrow.

Ate more today than usual, but I think its because we ate out twice (Panera Bread and TGIF). Didn’t get much exercise in either because there’s something wrong with my back. I think I slept wrong and now it hurts to even just turn my head. But I’m still within my food goal (at least 1200, no more than 1600, no more than 1/4 of that can be snack), so that’s a good thing.

Day 15 - Never Going to End

Now we’re under a flood warning. I don’t think that it’s ever going to stop raining here. Its seriously putting a damper on what is supposed to be my nice, enjoyable spring break.

Tomorrow it is off to the doctors to hear the verdict on whether or not I’m getting put back on Metformin or not. Cross your fingers for me.

Day 14 - Rain Rain Go Away

It rained AGAIN today. The boyfriend and I had walked to the local town center to pop into KMart and rent a couple movies. I was going to buy a nicer scale for back at school, but they were out of the one that I wanted. So I ended up just getting a neat little food scale, which is actually really nice, because it lets you weigh a container, zero it out, and then weigh just the food even though it’s being put in the container. We were on our way back to my house when it started raining, so my mom picked us up. Still got an hour in though.

Now I’m not feeling too well. I think its because since I got home, and its the weekend, I’ve pretty much only had a mish-mash of food for my meals (especially dinner). My mom and gram dont make “real” dinners usually when I’m not home, they just eat whatever is around. And since my mother has been in and out the past couple days, there didn’t seem to be a point in making an actual meal, so I just ate whatever I could find. Now I think I’m paying for it… Ugh.

Day 13 - Rainy Saturday

It rained today which made me unhappy since I couldn’t go outside and take my dog for a walk. I had to settle with the treadmill instead. I don’t know why, but I absolutely HATE walking on treadmills. I’d rather be outside freezing my but off than inside walking fast but going nowhere. But today I delt with it and got my exercise in. It’s supposed to be nice tomorrow, so I’ll be outside.

Slept through breakfast again today. I guess just all the late-night studying and such caught up with me. But I need to make sure that I don’t sleep through it though, since when I do, it seems impossible to get to 1200 calories for the day. So I’m going to make sure that I set both of my alarms for tomorrow.

Day 12 - Home

Finished my last test this morning, piled my crap into the car and now I am finally home. I’m posting so late because my friends came over tonight (their spring break is ending Sunday) to hang out. I’m REALLY proud of myself for once again resisting an old habit. Whenever we’d all get together, generally the first thing we’d do is go to the convenience store by my house (that has a 24 hour Dominos) and load up on junk and cheesybread. Tonight, I didn’t tag along, and just had water while they were snacking (since I don’t eat anything after 9pm anyways).

On the way home though, we stopped at TGIF. I decided to let myself have some soda, since I’ve been pretty good for these 12 days. I had a diet coke, and honestly, it wasn’t very good. I like diet coke though, so maybe it was just this one. I also got myself some green bean fries, and only ate one serving, boxing the rest to bring home. Mistake. Not only did I forget the take home box in the restaurant, but they also made me kind of sick. All I could taste in my mouth was them all the way home. It was pretty nasty. Guess my stomach got used to not having fried stuff and then I assaulted it. And even with that, I barely made it above 1200 since I felt crappy and didn’t have a snack.

Day 11 - Countdown to Home

In just over _ hours, I will be on my way home for SPRING BREAK! I’m not going anywhere special or anything, I just really miss home and need a break from the college atmosphere. Plus, it’ll be nice to have options other than cereal and oatmeal in the mornings. Generally, I could buy stuff and cook her, but because some assholes kept leaving my dorm’s stove on, the kitchen has been shut down for the rest of the year.

Going home also poses a potential problem. When I’m home, all I do is lay around an relax. I don’t have to get up and be anywhere, I don’t have to go to classes, and I’m just sitting around all day being bored for the most part. When I’m bored, I tend to snack… A LOT. Here, it’s not so bad, since I don’t have that many “snacky” foods, but at home, I know there will be an endless supply of potato chips and soda and pretty much whatever else you can imagine.

Meh, I’ll figure it out. Right now I’m just happy to be getting a change of atmosphere.

Day 10 - Feelin’ the Burn

Today my lower body feels like its on fire. I know it’s because I’m not used to exercising. So I took it pretty easy today and only did about a half hour of walking and a half hour of my other stuff. My upper body is starting to react to the weights and such too, so I’m sure in no time it’ll hurt just as much. Just gotta get through the initial shock and then I’ll be okay. Need to make sure also that I’m not overdoing it in my desire to make a difference in my life. I won’t be able to do anything if I push too hard and end up hurting myself.

I’m also feeling the no caffeine thing. I’ve had a head ache for most of today, and I just feel run down (like I normally do when I haven’t had caffeine in a long time). But today is day 10 without it. I’m super proud of myself too, since for those 10 days, as I sit and type at my computer there is a half full 12 pack of Crush Orange Soda sitting by my feet. It’s been mocking me the past couple days, but I’ve resisted. I’m thinking of trying to work it in somehow where I can have a bit of soda every once in a while (I like diet sodas, but even though they have no calories, its not good to drink them a bunch). I’ll have to see. I don’t want to just completely deprive myself of soda, since I don’t really like coffee and only sometimes like tea it’s pretty much my only source of heavy caffeine.

Day 9 - Feeling Better and Worse

No weigh in today. I decided that fluctuations from day to day tend to upset me rather than motivate me, so I think I’m going to make it weekly. If I can’t deal with that, then maybe I’ll have to find a happy medium (something like every 3 days maybe).

Spoke with my doctor today, and chances of me getting back on Glucophage any time soon seem slim. Apparently my liver functions are still really elevated, and they can’t put me back on the meds until I find a new GP and get them to start monitoring my liver functions / any deterioration. Not good. I was almost bawling when I called my mom to tell her. I could tell she was upset too, but there’s nothing I can do right now except keep fighting to lose weight on my own even with screwed up insulin levels.

Planned to go for a 2 hour walk today. I’ve been trying to take it really slow because of the problems I’ve been having with my knee. Was going to walk about 3 miles at a slow, leisurely pace and give my legs a rest for a change. I didn’t make the three miles though, I only went roughly 2.84 (according to Map My Walk) before my knee was absolutely killing me. The boy came and picked me up. But apparently I underestimated my “leisurely” walking, since I did those 2.84 miles in about an hour and a half. I kept thinking my cell phone was not keeping proper time, since I didn’t think I was walking that fast. But now I think I really need to take it easy. I’m probably heading into the campus doctor tomorrow to see if she can look at me knee / see if anything doesn’t feel right. Until then, I guess I’ll just have to do an hour of my other stuff (exercises with the fitness ball, lightweight lifting, stretches, etc).
