Almost
Well…we almost made it to Times Square…got to 5th Ave and 43d street (even drove in and found a parking space), but they had all of the streets leading into Times Square blocked off with many many police officers at each intersection. They told us we had to hike up to 59th street and then we could head west…well, we walked with the crowd the 15 or so blocks and at 59th street we all tunned left and walked about a block and were stopped by the crowd. There was a huge tv screen and the best we could do was watch the ball drop on the screen. So we turned around and battled the crowd back to 5th Ave and headed back to our car. Had a very expensive beer before we drove back to LI. So we had new years in the car. (Seems appropriate wth all the time spent in the car over the past few days!) I guess if you really want to be in Times Square for New Years you have to go down there early in the afternoon and hang out. Well, we tried! I actually enjoyed the adventure, though. it was fun being among the joyous happy crowd wearing funny hats and glasses saying “2008″. Saw lots of families, many young folks, of course, but also a number of baby boomers like us smiling and laughing in the new year. Met a couple from “across the pond” (Lake Ontario) in Canada and three sisters from a navy staton in Norfolk VA who had driven up for the festivites. It was their first time in NYC and they were thrilled. It was fun to witness their excitment.
So Happy New Year fellow (diet) bloggers. Head home tomorrow where i hear it’s very snowy and in the teens. Oh boy!

I watched last night and thought of you!!! Wondered if I was seeing you in the crowd, guess not.
Anyway, Happy New Year and have a safe trip home….
Oh, that sounds like fun, even if it didn’t go quite as planned. Happy new year!
Sounded fun. Specially seeing a happy crowd must be fun. I catch the contagious giggling.
A very happy new year and safe trip home.
love,

I watched too and thought of you and Anngirl - same as soclose - wondered who you were in the crowd!
My daughters and various visiting SA relatvies have seen the New Year in at Times Square - and you’re right, you have to get your spot early - the girls tell me you have to find a spot by 10am, then wait. There’s nowhere to go if you need the loo, and, according to one of the girls’ friends who found out in the worst way…. sometimes people have accidents after drinking too much! This has made me a leeetle bit wary!
I think you had great fun!
