Made it to NYC
Well, we had a good trip - all 10 hours of it. No arguments and the GPS worked once we figured out that the reason it was giving us problems was because we had neglected to load NJ into the map system - so it was pretending NJ didn’t exist and was routing us through PA. Ahh technology is grand when dumb people like us don’t screw it up.
The visit with DD1 was a little strained toward the end as my DH and I suggestted they not rush into marriage. They are thinking a June wedding, and she is going to be starting grad school somewhere in Sept (doesn’t know where yet) and it just seems like it’s all happening too quickly. Also her fiance seems to have different ideas about where they will live (he wants to be out in the country and she doesn’t), and whether she will work after kids are born etc. it just seems like they need to work all this stuff out a little bit more. Well, DD seemed surprised that we would suggest going slow - so that caused a little bit of uncomfortableness. Oh well, it’s their decision, I know, I just want her to be happy, ya know?
So, I’ll write about our adventures in Times Square! Happy New Year.

So nice to hear about the stress-free road trip. I need to work on my jealousy.
Your suggestion to your DD1 sounds most sensible. But as you say, I guess one needs to make one’s own mistakes and learn from that.
Wish you a very happy new year and the best time at Times Square.

I think giving the tough advice is critical even if it can make you momentarily unpopular. As parents, that’s your job.
I think there are a lot of people in the E coast area that try to pretend NJ doesn’t exist, but it does make it harder to reach NYC!
round knows what she’s talking about! Glad you had a stress free trip and that you eventually figured out that NJ was missing. I will be watching the ball tonight - if I can stay up that late - and thinking of you and Anngirl!
Happy New Year!
