Fall’s Really Here - first frost
What a change. Had to wear a coat to work this morning Brrrr. Fall used to be my favorite season, but lately I like Spring. Fall reminds me too much of the end of things, death etc. Maybe I’m just thinking a lot about death as I just read the book for our next library discussion group called, “The Year of Magical Thinking” by Joan Didion. When I picked it up from the library, I had visions of a light fantasy or something. Nothing could have been further from the truth. She writes about the sudden death of her husband and serious sudden sickness of her daughter. She doesn’t sugar coat anything and really gets to the raw emotions of these uncontrollable changes in her life. The key word here is “uncontrollable”…as she puts it…you can be sitting down to a routine dinner and in a second your whole life changes.” (Her husband has a heart attack just as she is getting dinner ready and dies within minutes.) Her daugher eventually recovers, but it is a long recovery period. Anyway, fall reminds me that change can come quickly. One day the leaves are on the trees and the next they are underfoot. We all like to think we can control our lives, but in reality we really can’t…well not all of it.
Oh I’ve gone on here, haven’t I? Weekend was fine. We say the movie “Across the Universe” and I loved it. Love story, Beatles music woven into the fabric of the story…I hummed all the way through the movie. Really liked the segment set to “I Want You” with Uncle Sam rounding up the troops. Very creative.
I did better with my eating this weekend, too. Also walked 6 miles yesterday and 5 miles this noon. Hopefully it will show up tonite a weigh-in.

Fantastic amt. of walking-WTG!!! I’ve heard of that book; it got a really good review in our paper. Yes, life can change in the blink of an eye…..
Wonderful walking!
That book is sheer poison. It threw my beloved friend head first into a mild depression and after getting through half of it. I just had to let it go. yes, it was a frank book, but sometimes, reading about someone else’s sorrow can be unhealthy for you! There was absolutely nothing magical about that book. It bled all over me and the night stand.
I think even a totally peppy happy person would have gotten an episode of depression off that thing!
yes,
reality can change…
but unfortunately, we never value the present like we should
I’ve heard of that book, but I think I’ll wait awhile before reading it. The movie (and your suggestion) looks really good. I’m going to keep my eye out for it this week-end.

Take care.
Good for you for all the walking!
