Long Friday Morning
Geeze - the clock just isn’t moving this morning. I’m at work and have lots of small tasks to catch up on, but everytime I check my watch it’s still earlier than I expect. Maybe ’cause I’m so looking forward to tomorrow and Sunday. My mom was always telling me my favorite saying growing up was “I can’t wait for…” fill in the blank. Well, guess I still do that. Tomorrow Len (my DH) and I are going to the Finger Lakes on a fall/wine tour. We’ve gotten a van that holds 16 of us so we can taste wine without worrying about having to drive. We’re going to a place called “The Windmill” first…I’ve heard lots about it - supposed to be a large craft/farmer’s market type of place. Then on to Keuka Lake to a small winery there for our tasting. Mostly I’m excited about some of the people going. Though Len and I have lived in our small town for 19 years, we have never had a close group of friends like the ones we have now. These friendships just sort of evolved over the last 2 years…to the point that we usually meet for Saturday morning breakfast at the local coffee shop. Also, a new couple just moved in down the street, and we have invited them as well. They seem interesting - used o run a Bed and Breakfast near Ithica, NY. So, I’m thankful for friendships right now. Especially since our girls are very much living their own lives right now. (One is in North Carolina and one at home - but she is rarely actually at home.)
As far as my healthy eating goes, this weekend will be a challenge. Oh and we are having another couple for dinner on Sunday. I’ll have to watch the wine consumption because I know that the more I drink the less control I have over what and how much I eat.
This blog probably gives the impression that we are some kind of social butterflies. Really that has not been true. This weekend is kind of an exception. (But a welcome one). Last weekend was pretty much the opposite - on my own. Life is all about balance, huh?

Omigawd! My clock must be related to yours! Mine won’t move, either! I thought it MUST be lunch time, but it’s only 11:25!!!!! I hate to think of what the afternoon will be like!
Your weekend alone sounds fabulous, and the picture is wonderful! AND your upcoming weekend sounds like loads of fun, too. I DO think that once we get our kids raised, we have a little more time to nurture friendships - and probably a few extra dollars to spend entertaining ourselves than we did when the kids were always needing something. When my kids were younger, it seemed like when we had the extra money, we didn’t have the TIME to do much socializing or traveling, and then when we had the extra time, we didn’t have the money. Now, we are by no means wealthy, but we do manage to find a few extra shekels around to spend on ourselves and do some things with friends. When you’re tasting that wine, drink a little toast to mid-life for us all!
Have a great time!

lyn our week-end plans sound like such fun…one of these days I’m going to plan a trip like that for me and Neil. I love the thought of living life graciously, going out for brunches, enjoying time with good friends and family. I love the photograph, too. Funny, I’m popping in and out of here this morning, watching the clock a little too..it sure is moving slowly!
Enjoy! Let us know which wines you liked. Just take it easy on the cheese, and you should be okay.
Oooops, I said “our” instead of “your”. Another Freudian slip? A sign? I shall pay heed, and make better plans accordingly. Rubes
Thanks Ella and Ruby - Hope the clock speeds up a bit this afteroon. Have a wonderful, joy-filled, relaxing weekend!
Hi Lyn! I’m in Western NY and just got back from a lovely weekend in the fingerlakes (we do an annual girls’ weekend down there). You’re going to have so much fun! If you don’t mind my advice —- and I guess if you do, you can delete this
One tip for the Windmill - get there early if at all possible. Last year it was soooo crowded - this year, we went at 8am when they opened and it was wonderful. The vendors had time to chat and you didn’t have to wait in line to get into all the little “shops”. I also recommend Bully Hill Vineyards (on the west side of the lake) - it’s a lot of fun and they don’t take the whole “wine-snob” thing seriously.
Have fun!
Sounds like lots of fun. Enjoy yourself.
Thanks for the comment on my blog.
