Weekend to Myself
I loved it. Friday night I relaxed, (maybe a little too much) with a couple of drinks, read my book, watched a movie and “Friday Night Lights”, and then made a vegie pizza. Unfortunatly I was so relaxed from the drinks that I ate the whole pizza, thus going over my WW points for the day by about 15. I got up at 7 am (a little woozy) and headed out to the County forest with my trusty camara and tripod. Of course I was the only soul there (other than the birds and forest critters). Passed a field of sunflowers and vowed to stop there on the way back. Saw the sun come up through the branches as I trudged through the forest. Did take a few photos, but the leaves were still mostly green. I remember last year at this time we were well into peak colors. This is one of the photos along the path. On the way home, got a great one of a sunflower all bent over. The farmer was out tending to his cows across the road, but he said go right ahead and take all the photos I wanted.
Saturday night I took myself to a movie (The Jane Austin Bookclub) as I know the DH wouldn’t be interested in that one. I enjoyed it, but realized that I haven’t read any Jane Austin - only saw the recent movies - and I really wanted to be able to identify with the discussions - I’ll have to go back and read them now. It was intriguing how they intertwined the current situations with these women (and one man) with the plots of the books.
Sunday was church and the “Apple Fest” We didn’t have the crowds we hoped for, but managed to have fun and probaly made over $500 net. Of course I contributed about $50.00 of that - got some pretty cloth apple placements, a vase, a pan of apple crisp, some plants, pumkins, and very large mums for the front porch. I also walked in the morning and in the afternoon for a total of about 5 miles. Then cooked dinner for a friend and watched Desperate Housewives. (Silly show, don’t know why I watch.) Also set off a flea bomb in my DD’s bedroom….they just love her ankles - not mine for some reason.
My DH and DD called me several times over the weekend. Friday night from a Moraccan restaourant saying ..”wish you were here- you could have been you know”..then Saturday when their car broke down and they had to wait 2 hours for AAA to come. Truthfully, I’m glad I stayed home. I needed this time to myself and I loved every minute of it. I wouldn’t want it all the time..I’m anxious to have them home tonight…but once in a while it’s great.

I so relate to the fund raising, we have a standard definitinion of fund raising around here: I spend $5 on buying cookie makings, make the cookies, donate the cookies and then buy the coookies back for $2. May I should just give you a $200 and promise not to ask me again. Problem with fund raisers is they build community around here, and they are fun! Sounds like a perfect weekend, well maybe not the whole pizza
Dritta
Thanks, Dritta. Yup…fund raising’s just as you said. But we did have fun.
Love the pic you posted–it looks so calming, peaceful and cool.
On fundraising: I’m at the point now with the school that I just donate 25.00 directly to the cause (whatever it is; last week Latin Club) rather than buy 25.00 of stuff I don’t want/need so they can make half of that as profit.
The Jane Austin movie got panned in our paper; usually that means I’ll like it.
Your week-end sounds heavenly! I am envious!
I really like your photograph too. It looks cool and moist and calm, just like soclose said. Our fundraisers at church are much the same as yours, but you’re right, they do build a sense of community. Do you ever have a St. Joseph’s table? We did okay with that…I had to laugh at dritta’s fundraising formula and soclose’s practcal solution.
For years I (guiltily) put out Girl Scout cookie sheets at work, although I never foisted the wrapping paper on anyone, nor the magazines. Now I feel obliged to buy GS cookies from everyone and we had way too many boxes (like 12) in the cupboard last year!
Nice to have the family back after a time like that…the best of two worlds. RubyJ
