Runnin-away-Saturday!

Quote from the day:

“Certainly your health and your body and you are more important than anything else in your life.  You are worthless to your colleagues, friends, and family if you do not value yourself enough to take excellent care of you.  Yes, you have to put yourself before your friends, parents, boyfriend, husband, and even your children.  It won’t make you a bad daughter or wife or mother; it will make you a less resentful, more confident, interesting, beautiful, patient, tolerant, and fun person to be around.”                       ~From Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman & Kim Barnouin.

Well I ran this morning, just like I said I was going to.    It was tough at first.  Then I realized what was wrong.  I forgot my Ipod!  Running is alot harder without a good beat to run to!  So I turned around and got it and felt much better.   So I decided during my run to do a timed mile.  I ran, and it felt so good.  Toward the mile mark I really pushed it, stretching my legs out and swinging my arms making sure my fingertips were coming up even with my nose.  My time was 11:07!  Excellent!  I broke my last time.  So I walked for a few minutes, then ran for a few minutes, then decided to run a timed half mile.  I ran.  I ran hard, pushing myself hard.  Toward the end I pushed myself up the last hill and started wheezing.  No, I mean really wheezing…like an asthma attack wheeze.  I felt okay, not light headed or anything,  so I concentrated on my breathing and ran hard, but not pushing myself to the max, just wanting to make sure I finished.  So I finished with at time of 5:23!   My time before was 6 minutes!!!  I blew my old time out of the water!!!   So I stop running and am gasping for air.  My mom could here me from 20 feet away and is like “What is wrong with you!?!”  I say: “I think I am having an asthma attack!”  She says “get a drink of water.”  I say:  “I don’t need water, I need an inhaler.”  She didn’t want me to use the inhaler (afraid it would cause me to have a heart attack).  So I walked around and stopped wheezing pretty quickly.  It was weird.  I did that one other time too, but this time it was worse.  I have a cold (sinus’) so I wonder if maybe my allergies were acting up causing the shortness of breath.  Again, weird…

So then DS3 had a soccer game. I am his coach. My kids actually won…well, we don’t keep score, but if we did, we would have won!  This is the first game I could say that.  We only have 7 kids so they had to play the entire 15 minute halves in the 80 degreee heat.  (The other team could rotate their kids in or out.  So they got breaks!) These kids are 3-5!!  But they did it.  I was so proud of them!

I didn’t eat until about 2:30.  I ate a SB turkey & ham wrap.  While I was making the wraps the things I read in Skinny bitch were running through my head.  The Jello fell out of the box and I was reminded what gelatin was made of.  I wanted to puke right there!  The book told what gelatin was made of.  I won’t ruin anyone else’s happy relationship with Jello by detailing it here, but I don’t know if I will ever be able to eat it again.   Also ruined by this book was my relationship with meat and dairy.  This book details what meat and dairy do to our bodies and about the atrocities of the factory farming industry.  I really would want to be vegan, after reading that, the problem is:

I have no money

I just bought a bunch of meat.  i did however buy some veggie things.  Veggie burgers, veggie ground beef, veggie chicken patties, etc.

So I am stuck.  I figure I may go into vegan-ism slowly.  I am going to try to cut down on meat to once a day and cheese once a day.  After I have those goals accomplished I will move on to meat a few times a week, and then maybe no meat at all…I don’t know if I will ever be able to rid myself of cheese. This will be hard, but I need to focus on my health, and  this makes sense to me.  I have been considering it for some time, but after eading that book…well, Alot of what is said in it makes sense.

FYI… There is a type of asthma known as EIA: exercise induced asthma, my dau. has it, hers usually occurs while running in the fall and is also sometimes triggered by competitive swimming …..treated with a Maxair inhaler prior to exercise….on the skin testing the only things she reacted to were 3 mold spores…..
