That crazy lady is outside watching the storm again!

The day was just a day. I took Ds#3 to soccer camp, picked him up, took kids out to eat, came home, walked 4.5 miles and went home to relax. I watched the storms roll by. We actually didn’t get the first one. It passed just to the north and I sat on my porch and watched the show. We have an amazing view of the north. I can actually see into several counties from my front porch. It was awesome.
I love storms. I love everything about them, the anticipation, the thunder, the lightening, the rain, the wind. It all is wonderful. Now granted we usually don’t get the ones that tear up stuff, and we haven’t had a tornado warning in several years. All the worst storms seem to travel to our south. (Do you sense the disappointed tone in my saying that. I know I am crazy) I know it’s weird. Most people hate storms but the beauty of nature, the fury of nature captivates me. I love to watch it. While I am sitting on my front porch enjoying the breeze off the storm, and watching the light show DS#3 comes out and orders me in the house. He does not share my appreciation for storms. We got “trapped” under a shelter a few weeks ago during DD’s baseball game and ever since then he freaks whenever there is a storm. At least he loves me enough to try to protect me.
While I was sitting there, reading a book, I looked up into the brightest, blinding, lightening strike I had ever seen in all my life of lightening watching. It took my breathe and I actually felt dizzy. For a second I wondered if I had been struck or what the hell? I wondered how close it was, because this happened as the storm was winding down, much of it was too the east by now. So I listened for the thunder. I swear it was a good minute before I heard the thunder, and the thunder was that really loud, long rumbling kind. The kind that rolls on for so long you wonder if it’s thunder or an earthquake coming. It was a good distance off, so that was some lightening strike. I feel sorry for whatever it hit.
One of the coolest things I ever did in my life was drive to the next town to pick up my boyfriend from work during an ice storm. That was sooo scary, and sooo cool. We drove under a tree that was completely bent over! There was just enough space between the braches for a car to go through. Then I’d be driving and see this blinding burst of color, like a rainbow on steroids. It would flash and disappear before you really truly saw it. It was the electric transformers blowing. It was very cool, and very pretty, and very dangerous. I’m glad i got to do it once, when I was young and fearless. I would not do it again…no way!
Well, enough of my blabbering!

I love lightning storms too. Now that my back door backs up to the everglades (okay 1/2 mile if that away) they are a bit scary sometimes. They are still amazing though! I prefer them 20 miles away though, lol.
