Just another 3fatchicks.com weblog

Me and my big mouth. I shared with my DH the Time article I also mentioned in my blog dated 08/01/08 about exercising 55 minutes 5 days a week and he has decided that we, as a family, need to be doing and I have decided to change his name to Hitler.   :)   We went tonight. DH swam, youngest DD lifted weights and ran and oldest DD and I walked the outdoor trail at the Y. I was glad, actually, to be moving but I was whining like a 2 year old part of the time. Here’s how the conversation/walk went:

Me-how long have we been walking? DD-15 minutes. me-uh-huh, it’s been at least a 1/2 hour. DD-nope 15. sorry. Me-how long now? DD-30 minutes. Me-ugh. Me-how long now? DD 35 minutes. Me-no way. You said 30 minutes 30 minutes ago. Me-how long? Are we done yet? DD-45 minutes and stop you’re whining. You sound like a two year old. Me- I think I’ll only walk 55 minutes. DD-nope: 60. That’s what the whole family is doing. Me-well, then, I abdicate. DD-You can’t now quit your whining. You sound like a two year old. DD-we can start slowing down now. Me-hallelujah! DD-okay we’re done. Me-thank you, Jesus!

Don’t tell me DH but I’m glad he’s finally taking some initiative. It helps. I do need to talk to him about the way he words things, though. When I’m eating something I really shouldn’t, he uses negative re-enforcements which makes me want to rebel, eat everything in sight and say you’re not the boss of me. (There’s that 2 year old attitude again). So, I’m going to talk to him about positive re-enforcement for all of us. Maybe earning points every week for exercise, good food choices, etc. Then redeeming those points for non food related rewards. I think he’ll go for it.

How about you guys? What kind of rewards do you give yourself? I’d appreciate any ideas you could give.

That’s it for now. I’m going to take my inner two year old and play in the bathtub.   :)

Have a great day!

It’s very cool that your whole family is involved! I know it’s made a big difference for me to be doing the diet and exercise thing with my 16yo son - and I imagine it’s made a big difference for him, too. =D

My rewards are low-carb treats. Diet or no diet, I still see food as a reward in itself. Maybe that’s not good, but at least I’m learning to make low-cal, low-carb stuff.

    Best wishes on your journey,
    Eileen
