Just another 3fatchicks.com weblog

I got back into the Y this evening. Yeah! It felt so good. I did 35 minutes on the elliptical. Did I mention that it felt good? :)

I discovered something tonight. I used to keep up with my miles on the elliptical-potayto. I really pushed myself to hit a certain number of miles by the end of my time. This lead to my heart rate going way, way above my target heart rate which made the machine yell at me” SLOW DOWN TO REDUCE YOUR HEART RATE”.  :) Since finding out that my blood pressure was so high, I decided to put less stress on my heart by keeping my heart rate within a safe range so the machine doesn’t yell at me-potahto. What I’ve discovered is that it doesn’t really make that much difference. When I follow my heart rate instead of pushing the miles, I am within .15 of a mile of the distance I was when I was really pushing my heart rate up there. So, potayto, potahto.  :) I’m going to do what’s safest and not let that machine yell at me any more. :)

My daughter is much better. I’ve never seen anyone so happy to be going back to school! :)

Have a great day.

I am a treadmill girl…I loath the elliptical. But have found something similar. I kept increasing my speed, my heart rate would go way up and I got horrible shin splits. So I slowed down my speed, increased the incline, my heart rates stays in a safe range, the calories burned are very close, and I DON’T get shim splints. I guess we just need to listen to our bodies!!!

Glad your daughter is better!! Have a great day!!
