The title…explained!

So I bet you’re wondering about the title. Maybe you are, maybe you are not. Back in high school I was always the fat friend. Everybody had one. I would look around and make sure I wasn’t the biggest one around (and I wasn’t) but it didn’t make me feel much better. One day a friend, male, kind of an idiot, out of the blue told me, “You know what Leigh? you would be so gorgeous if you could just lose like, 50 lbs”

And thus the title.

That remark was made almost 7 years ago and I still hear it in my ear every day.

Not to say that I haven’t tried to stop listening.

almost 4 years ago I befriended a man online who would eventually become my husband (11/23/2005!) and he changed my entire life. Before him I’d been so down and out that I wasn’t sure I’d ever get to fulfill my dream of having my own loving family. I’d been through a lot as a teen and I’m going to spare you the details but suffice it to say, I wasn’t sure I’d ever find true happiness. My prayers were answered last summer when I discovered that we were expecting our first child. The year prior (2006) I’d managed to lose 30 lbs by loosely following the WW points program. I’d put back about half of that and once my pregnancy was over I’d put on the rest. When I came home from the hospital I weighed 215 lbs. Exactly 5 lbs less than my previous “low weight”. Obviously the baby weight wasn’t a problem. The maternity leave weight however? well. This is me getting rid of my maternity leave weight (and then some).

Currently, I’m 5′10 and weighing in at 230 lbs. I have a size 20 dress size and most of my excess weight is in my midsection (hence why I still sometimes refer to it as my pregnancy weight). My goal is to lose at least 30 lbs. Since I am quite tall and I have quite a broad stature, I’m not sure how realistic a goal like 50 lbs would be right now. Ultimately I just want my exterior to match my interior.

My husband is on board with me, We both realize we have to make a team effort or success will be exponentially difficult.

Go team!

  1. It looks as if you have the best support system a girl could ever ask for… your husband! If he’s on your side, that makes it tons easier. Good luck to you!
