Phew!

Exercise, General 4 Comments »

I did my first day of week 4 of C25K. It started off nice, I didn’t even notice when the 3 minutes was up, and then came the 5 minute jog. It was challenging and I didn’t finish the second one, I stopped 30 seconds early. I kept repeating in my head that my body could do it and that only my mind would stop me. However, during that last run, I was going up a hill and it was too much. I am still quite proud of myself. I ended up doing about 35 minutes total.

No workout tomorrow, we are going on a day trip to see DH’s parents and hopefully I don’t eat a lot of crap while I’m there.  I’m so ready for it to get cool again. I would also love to take my dog on a jog one day, I know she would love it. I know she’d get overheated in this weather though. Also I don’t think I could do it with her and a stroller.

I wanted a bodyslimmer like this:

I went to Walmart because I remembered that they had some not-so-expensive bodyslimmers which I wanted to wear under certain items of clothing. I hate seeing the bulge around my midesection and they just pull everything together so nicely. I don’t mind spending a lot of money on underwear, but I know that once I lose weight and stop nursing that my bra size is going to go down and  they are sized by bra size. I was so shocked to see that there weren’t ANY DD or DDD sizes. The most surprising thing was that they said they were inspired by Queen Latifa. Now I know she got a breast reduction, but she’s still got big boobs and if they’re inspired by her, I would think they’d have something beyond a C cup. Oh well…

Day 2 of week 3

Today went pretty smoothly with my run. I felt great when I woke up this morning. I ate the subway sandwhich that I couldn’t finish last night because of nausea and  went out to run. It was anice day for it too, sun is shining but not too humid. It rained last night too, so that cooled it off some. I did 10 minutes walking, jogging (90 sec jog, 90 sec walk, 3 minutes jog, 3 minutes walk, 2 reps of each) and then about a 15 minute walk. I went and bought some new headphones right after the workout. I can’t stand the ones that just have the little pieces that go in each ear hole. They keep falling out when I run (are my ear canals too big? :/ ) I got some new ones that kind of rest on the top of the ear. I hope they are better. I need to do weights today, but first I’m going to do some laundry while the baby is sleeping. Still waiting for AF…my weight is up and down everyday…she should be here today or tomorrow and things will get back to normal.

Self Motivation

I can run. I will run.  It doesn’t matter if people in my life are skeptical that I will ever run…because (unless there is an injury of some sort) I will be a runner in the end. There, I said it.

Baby and I appear to be sick with something. I really hate being sick, especially because I don’t want it to interfere with my running program. I will see how I feel tomorrow and if I still feel yucky, I may just go for a short walk instead of running.  I’m going to bed early because I’m positively beat.

Look out your window!

You’ll probably spot a flying pig, because I just ran 3 minutes spurts with relative ease! I could not believe it. Granted, I wasn’t going super fast, but I was jogging! I did 10 minute walk, running part (90 sec jog, 90 sec walk, 3 minute jog, 3 min walk) 2 times and then 10 minutes walking. I also went back to the consignment shop and got a new pair of “dri” pants and a tennis skirt, with shorts sewn in. All for about 10 bucks! And the pants were brand new! I wore them today and there was no uncomfortableness at all. (Yes I just made that word up)

Weight is nearly back to normal which means that AF is imminent, but I have lot 2 inches off my waist since I measured last (over a month ago?) Here’s the menu for today:

B: oatmeal w/cinnamon and splenda

S: watermelon

L: baked turkey breast w/ mushrooms

S: probably more watermelon or strawberries

D: subway! turkey sub and side salad

Ok, I don’t feel quite as ravenous or depressed as I did yesterday, despite being awoken at 4 o’clock this morning by a dog that pooped on the carpet. (It’s the only carpet we have in the house and that’s always where he feels the need to have an accident). Baby and I are about to leave for my last day of week 2 of C25k. I peeked ahead to next week and I don’t know how likely it is that I will be able to do it right off the bat. Here’s next week:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then do two repetitions of the following:

  • Jog 200 yards (or 90 seconds)
  • Walk 200 yards (or 90 seconds)
  • Jog 400 yards (or 3 minutes)
  • Walk 400 yards (or three minutes )

3 minutes??!?!? That’s going to be super tough, but if I do it I will be so proud of myself.  I broke out the spandex pants today for running. It’s not going to be pretty but I’m tired of my shorts always riding up. Of course, my thighs touching together doesn’t make that any easier. (Note to self: Add to wish list “I wish my thighs would not touch”)

That reminds me of an episode of the Golden Girls where they went to join a gym and the lady there was trying to get them to buy all these workout clothes. Dorothy wanted to know why they needed leg warmers and the saleslady said “Well, you  need something to keep your thighs warm…what are you using now?” And Dorothy says “Friction, that’s why were here!” She and Sophia are by far my favorite.

Ok, so I’m off for my “run”. This morning I had a lite breakfast of whole wheat toast and a plum. I’ve got my ipod all revved up with some good music (thanks,  drittadoll!) and a big bottle of water.

Much better today

I did my second day of C25k week 2 and it went much better than last time. I think it had something to do with the fact that I went in the morning  (thank you Baby for waking up at 5:30am this morning!) and brought along my water hehe. 10 minute warm up walk, 20 minutes run/walk (90 sec run/2 min walk), and then 5 minute walk cool down. I see this one lady all the time at the walking track who’s there when I get there, my whole time there and then when I leave. She runs the whole time. I am so impressed. There’s also a man who’s got to be in his 60s that runs as well. He has the best look legs I’ve ever seen on a 60 year old lol. I would love to be that active when I’m that age. And I want to be like the lady who can run for what seems like forever. Slowly, but surely.

AF is surely around the corner, because I was up 2 pounds this morning. It’s to be expected, I’m surprised it hadn’t happened sooner. Hopefully, she will come and leave so I can get over feeling crampy and bloated.

Weigh in 7/25

Today I weighed in at 205.2. So down a pound!

I was supposed to do Y!F last night, but due to painters would said they would be here yesterday, but later callled and said they “probably” would be here today or tomorrow, my playstation,  TV, and whole entertainment center are unplugged and pushed to the middle of the living room, along with all the other furniture in there. So, I did DDR in the “family” room. I played for an hour, but probably only got about 40-45 minutes of total exercise in between choosing songs. I forgot how fun that was, I haven’t played it in a while and it got me really sweating.

I’m not posting my whole menu today, but I started the day off with 2 pieces of whole wheat toast and 2 scrambled brown eggs. I read online that the only difference between brown eggs and white eggs are the species of chicken they come from, but the brown eggs carton says that they are higher in vitamin E and omega 3? I don’t guess anyone knows if there is actually a difference? Would love to know.

I’m off to do day 3 of C25K (couch to 5k). I think I will probably do 4 days of the first week, since I started it last Saturday and would like to keep it in on a M, W, F schedule. So my next day of it will be Friday. I’ll post how it goes later. I’m going to a new track that is flatter and smoother.

Dr. Oz?

Exercise, General 5 Comments »

I’ve said before on this blog that I am a big fan of Dr. Oz. I’ve read his weight loss book and occasionally thumb through this other book. I just saw an episode of Oprah where he said it’s ok to suck in when you’re measuring your waist (at the bellybutton) because you can’t suck in fat. He also said that the ideal waist size is 1/2 of your height. I am 5′7 so my ideal waist measurement is 33.5 inches or lower. I really don’t remember that from the book, I will have to re-read it. Tomorrow morning I will re-measure myself and see what it is sucking in.

Exercise: I did 35 minutes of the running program: 10 minute warm up, 20 minutes alternating 60 seconds of jogging, 90 seconds of walking, followed by a 5 minute cool down walk. Lifted some weights when I came home. I made my own little workout, using 10 pound dumbells:

10 X 3 sideraises and frontraises

12 X3 bicep curls

12 X 3 upward rows

12 X 3 shoulder presses

12 X 3 tricep kickbacks

50 crunches on the stability ball

25 bicycle crunches
