Makes me feel better

Katie Holmes ran the New York marathon and I was looking online just reading about the marathon itself. I love reading about races now. Anyway, I saw this picture of her:

Everyone keeps making a big deal about her not wearing a bra. Ok, who cares if she was comfortable doing it? Personally, I would’ve been on a hospital stretcher with a concussion by the first mile if I had tried that, but more power to those who can go without.

But her boobs are not perky like I alway see on TV.  They look normal, like a real mom. Granted, maybe she’s slumping over a little, but I’m fighting the battle of the sag/bulge and feel a little better knowing even a sex symbol like her is not perfect.

Anyhoo….I did 2 miles today. Those hills kicked my BUTT. I did 1 mile and felt so winded that I stopped to walk about 5 minutes. Then I went back and did it again. Not as bad the second time around, but there was still a lot of butt kicking by the hills.

After the run, I went on a tourof  gym/physical therapy center that is affiliated with the hospital I now work for.  I would be able to get a reduced rate w/ no joining fee or contract. Really nice facilities, but the childcare area could use some help. The lady showed me around and the kids looked totally miserable. They were all sitting at a table, one of them slumped over a coloring book that I swear was from the 1980s, while an outdated video played on a tv in the background. The kid slumped over the coloring book looked up briefly when I came in the room and then let her forehead land back on the table. This was not the happy toy land I expected. DS kind of looked at me desperately when we toured the area and started clutching me tighter as if begging me not to leave him there.

But they do have a nice heated pool, aerobics classes and a nice gym area, so I might just join and go when DH is here to watch the kiddo. I really want to incorporate swimming into my exercise regime, though it wreaks havoc on my hair.

I’m supposed to do 2 miles tomorrow, so I think I will do the hilly area again. I will rest on thursday and then friday get DH to watch DS while I do my “long” run of 3.5-4 miles. I’m supposed to do 3.5, but I think I could do more, especially on a flat course. I found a new biking trail to run on that’s out in the open that I would like to try, but I don’t feel comfortable pushing a stroller over some of the parts. I really wish I had someone to run with, but best friend is out of town visiting family and plus she’s just not into running as much as I thought she was.

The running store here where I bought my shoes is having a big sale on Friday. I’m going to go and if they have shoes that fit my feel on sale, I will so be buying them. Ok, if they’re not too expensive.  Oh, and if they’re cute…

I am back

And how could I have left? I won’t get into, but the reasons were stupid on my part.

I need this blog. It helps me, you all help me and I am inspired by everyone’s progress. Also, my weight loss has really slowed down (er, stopped?) since I stopped writing here. Coincidence? I think not.

Today, as I sit here eating grapefruit and sipping coffee, I can say that I have changed my lifestyle. Yes, there are the occasional slip ups and probably always will be. But thus far I am proud of what I have accomplished. I ran 3.2 miles yesterday. Yes, ME! And guess what ? I wasn’t winded, my legs didn’t burn like fire.  Ok, it was a flat course, but darn it, I did it.  I have signed up for a 10k in February and I’m going to be ready.

Let’s see, what else is new? Oh yes, I started a job. No, it’s kind of like part time (prn, if you know what that means). I’ll only probably work like once a week, but I get to choose my own schedule. Still working with babies, not at my old place of employment though. It’s pretty slow there, so I have to make sure I bring a book. Healht-wise, I don’t like being so sedentary. I’m not even that sedentary at home, so it’s a bit of a change. My legs usually ache afterwards from sitting down so much. But it pays pretty well and I get to cuddle infants, so it works for now.

Ok, off for a run. I’m going on the hilly course and am going to do 2.8 miles. Just watch, it will be harder than the 3.2 miles lol. So happy to be back. I will post more later :) AND I need to get caught up on everyone’s blogs!
