So pissed off
General September 28th, 2007Ok, so I’m running along in the park today minding my own business, listening to an audio book on my Ipod. There’s a lady who walks there frequently. I saw her in Wal-mart once with her little girl. In case I haven’t said this before, I’m in a mixed marriage so my child is biracial, though he looks white, so everyone assumes I’m babysitting him or something. Anyway, this lady also has a biracial child who is white looking (the lady is black). The little girl looked at DS in Wal-mart and said “Look Mama” and then the lady said something like “Oh, he’s like you” We chatted a little bit, and it was actually pleasant because normally I get annoying or stupid comments.
Well it turns out this lady goes walking at the park I normally go to. I saw her a couple of times and waved, but she always wants to stop and talk to the baby. This annoys me, because I don’t want to stop running so she can chat. Other people who are regulars at the park just keep walking and wave at me or the baby, but she has to completely stop, get off the path she’s on and come over to us, so I feel obligated to stop.
She did this today, but had kind of grim look on her face. I stopped, but jogged in place so that she would get the hint that I needed to keep going. I’m there for exercise, not conversation. She wanted to inform me that I needed to be wearing a sports bra when I run.
OKAY…I was wearing 2! I test them out by jumping up and down a lot before I go running to make sure there won’t be any extra jiggle. Anyone with big breasts knows how uncomfortable that can be. I also have an enell that I prefer to wear because it works so well, but it was in the wash today. I usually wear it though. She said that she saw me the other day and thought it was a shame I wasn’t wearing a sports bra. She said that she had been running without one a few years back and that it caused her breast to sag really bad, even though they were small. I then told her I was wearing 2 and the support was fine. She got this surprised look on her fact and looked down at my bust.
She then said that she could recommend me a doctor to take care of my problem. WTF?! Now, my breast are saggy? How DARE she?!
Yes, my breast have never been perky, they never will be. I’m fine with that. Unless they start dragging the ground, I won’t be having surgery on them. I shook my head no, and she assured me that medicaid would pay for it…um, who the *$%# said I was on medicaid? In fact, who the *$%& invited you over here to critique my boobs, my running, and then suggest how I would go about paying for a surgery that I don’t intend to have.
I said I wasn’t on medicaid, and she looked surprised at that. I wanted to say “Lady, do you want the name of my insurance company so you can double check? Do you want me to pull up my shirt so you can see that I do have 2 sports bras on?”
I packed up my son, stroller, and saggy boobs and got in the car. I am never going to that track again, at least not in the morning when she likes to come. I drove by another park further down the road that I thought was all concrete, but it turns out to be asphalt, so I’ll be running there from now on. Maybe I overreacted, I don’t care.
What makes me the angriest is that I am not bouncing all over the place at all. The girls are pretty much in place. ARGH so mad!!!
pardon my rant

OMG!!!!! I can’t believe that woman went there with you and I think you handled yourself a lot better than I would. How insulting she suggest you are on Medicaid and on top of it suggest you have breast surgery. I don’t think there are many women over 20 who have perky girls especially after having a child. Oooohh…I would have let her have it but I guess that wouldn’t have been wise since your child there. Chalk it up to severe stupidity on her part and I wouldn’t let her control whether you run at the same park or not. Don’t give her that power. Next time just ignore her and keep running.

How rude!!! I think I would have been hard pressed not to lash out verbally at this idiot! OK–if she has a problem concerning her perception of how your breasts should appear (and just why is she looking at them in the first place?????); that’s exactly what it is—–HER problem, NOT yours so DO NOT take ownership in any way of this; keep going there and just say, “No time” and wave her off in the future if she wants to talk. She doesn’t sound like anyone you’d want to know on any level. She’s probably just jealous of your running anyway!!

i’m so sorry you had to deal with such rude treatment, especially during your workout. i know it’s easy for me to say, but if that park is the place you love to go running, you should keep going there. i agree that she’s just jealous, and you should run right past her and leave her in your dust.

My son was born a strawberry blonde with pale white white skin and big blue eyes. He is adorable and looks nothing like me. People would ask how long I had been his nanny and I would look them straight in the eye and say,”Forever, but its really tough because his parents are ruining him. I can’t do a thing with him.”
Please don’t let the lady chase you off your favorite exorcise route. Don’t for a second think what she thinks or does has the slightest thing to do with you. In away, she said nothing bad about you. Blurting out inappropriate comments makes life hard for a person; kind of a tourettes of thought. She must be very lonely. She must be on medicaide so she assumes everyone who she identifies with is on medicaide; she seems to know a lot about it. And I don’t think medicaid is a shameful thing; in this country we need universal health care. I know too many responsible hardworking people who can afford NO health care; now that is shamefull.

Drittadoll, it’s not the Medicaid part that offended me. It’s her getting so very personal…to me, how I pay for medical procedures is my business and not something I discuss with strangers. My boobs are not something I discuss with strangers. I agree about the universal health care, we definitely need something else in place.
thanks for all of your kind replies, it’s nice to have a place to vent.

She sucks, and obviously has no tact. Some people get a kick out of making sure to stick it to others whenever they can. Fuck her. Your tits look great.

I cannot believe her! She must live a very sad and lonely life. I cannot imagine her having any friends with the things she says to people she doesnt even KNOW! How horrible! I think you handled it much better than I would have.
Keep up the running - whether there or at the other track! You are doing GREAT! And I wish I could run a 5K with you!!!

You are absolutely right, she had no right to make personal comments about you or to think that her opinion is of greater importance than anyone elses. I would be deeply offended to have someone come up and suggest surgery to me: hell I was offended when my Aunt suggested it once, and she changed my diapers! I was just thinking that this woman is not as much offensive as pathetic; so don’t let her keep you away from YOUR park! - dritta
